Gateway Regional Medical Center is looking for a dedicated Medical Laboratory Lead (MLS, MT, or MLT) to join our Laboratory team. We currently have one full-time Evening Shift opening and one full-time Midnight Shift opening for professionals who are passionate about quality patient care and laboratory excellence.

Position Overview

As a Laboratory Lead, you'll play a vital dual role by performing complex diagnostic testing while serving as the shift leader for laboratory operations.

You'll help ensure efficient workflow, maintain the highest quality standards, support fellow laboratory staff, and provide technical expertise to keep the laboratory running smoothly. Your work will directly influence timely diagnoses and positive patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Coordinate laboratory workflow and daily testing priorities.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact during your assigned shift.

  • Support staff while promoting efficiency, teamwork, and quality service.

  • Help maintain timely turnaround times for patient testing.

Laboratory Testing

  • Perform moderate- and high-complexity laboratory testing in:

    • Chemistry

    • Hematology

    • Blood Bank

    • Microbiology

  • Ensure testing accuracy in accordance with hospital policies, CLIA regulations, and laboratory standards.

Quality & Compliance

  • Monitor quality control procedures and documentation.

  • Review quality data and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Assist with equipment maintenance and quality improvement initiatives.

Technical Expertise

  • Troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and instrumentation.

  • Perform calibration, maintenance, and technical problem-solving.

  • Serve as a resource for laboratory staff on technical issues.

Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, phlebotomists, and laboratory leadership.

  • Report critical values promptly.

  • Help resolve specimen and testing questions while providing excellent customer service.

Qualifications

We welcome applications from experienced laboratory professionals as well as recent graduates who are eager to grow into a leadership role.

MLT Candidates

Education (One of the Following):

  • Associate degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program, including chemistry and biology; or

  • Associate degree (minimum 60 semester hours) including chemistry and biology plus a 12-month structured medical laboratory curriculum; or

  • Graduation from a military medical laboratory training program of at least 12 months.

Certification

  • Certification eligible as MLT (ASCP), MLT (AMT), HEW, or CLS (NCA).

  • Registry preferred within 12 months of graduation.
