Position Overview:

The BYU School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time position as Course Director for Organ Systems 5 – Reproduction, Development, and Endocrine. This Phase 1 course provides first-year medical students with a foundational understanding of human reproduction, embryologic development, and endocrine function. Emphasis is placed on physiologic regulation, hormonal signaling, reproductive anatomy, sexual development, pregnancy, and pathophysiologic conditions across the lifespan.

The Course Director will lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of the course in collaboration with faculty in physiology, anatomy, developmental biology, and endocrinology, as well as the Director of Phase 1. The ideal candidate is a basic scientist with expertise in reproductive physiology, developmental biology, or endocrine systems and a demonstrated commitment to integrated and student-centered medical education.

Required Degree: 

PhD (or equivalent terminal degree) in in physiology, biomedical sciences, nutrition, or a related field

Required Qualifications 

• PhD (or equivalent terminal degree) in physiology, biomedical sciences, developmental biology, or a related field
• Demonstrated expertise in reproductive physiology, endocrinology, or human development
• Strong record of teaching in undergraduate, graduate, or medical education (UME) settings
• Experience with active learning, team-based learning, or case-based instructional methods
• Alignment with and commitment to the mission, values, and spiritual aims of Brigham Young University and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience leading integrated or interdisciplinary courses in medical or health professions programs
• Record of scholarship in reproduction, development, endocrinology, or medical education
• Familiarity with instructional technology, digital platforms, or AI-enhanced teaching methods
• Experience with curricular design, course coordination, or assessment of learning outcomes

Duties/Expectations: 

Teaching and Instruction

• Deliver course content using student-centered, clinically integrated instructional methods
• Facilitate active learning in topics such as endocrine signaling, reproductive physiology, embryologic development, and related disorders
• Guide students in applying scientific principles to clinical and human development contexts

Administrative Leadership

• Coordinate course objectives, assessments, and scheduling with adjacent courses and curriculum committees
• Collaborate with faculty and curriculum leaders to align content with LCME standards and BYU’s institutional competencies
• Participate in course evaluation and ongoing curricular improvement initiatives

Scholarship and Innovation

• Conduct or contribute to research in reproductive physiology, development, endocrinology, or medical education
• Present findings through scholarly conferences and publications
• Support innovation in assessment, instructional design, or integration

Service and Outreach

• Serve on medical school committees and contribute to faculty development efforts
• Mentor students and support the values and mission of the BYU School of Medicine
