Job Summary 

TKA is a Christ-Centered school grounded in a Biblical worldview, and we are looking for a Marching Band Instructor who is a follower of Jesus Christ and is dedicated to the school’s Christ-Centered mission. The primary responsibilities of this position are to lead, teach, and inspire students in the art of marching band performance. This role involves executing rehearsals, designing engaging and educational curricula, and fostering a positive and inclusive environment for student musicians. This person will have a strong background in music education, marching techniques, and leadership skills.

Requirements

Essential Job Functions

Regular Activities

• Plan and conduct rehearsals for the marching band, including music instruction, drill design, and performance techniques
• Be able to commit to all band rehearsals and competitions 
• Teach and reinforce marching fundamentals, including choreography, formations, and transitions
• Provide individual and group instruction to students on their musical instruments and overall performance skills
• Organize rehearsal schedules, ensuring a balance between musical and visual elements
• Coordinate and oversee all aspects of performance preparation
• Mentor and motivate students, fostering a positive and collaborative environment within the band
• Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to help students improve their skills and reach their full potential
• Work closely with others to support the band program and ensure its success
• Communicate effectively with students and their families regarding expectations, and progress

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• 3+ years marching band instructing experience preferred
• 3+ years experience marching  preferred

Skills and Abilities 

• Proficiency in multiple musical instruments 
• Deep understanding of marching band arrangements
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to design and implement effective rehearsal and performance strategies

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Work will be performed on and off campus
• May occasionally have to lift up to 30-pounds
• Work is generally performed seasonally, July - November 
• The Marching Band and Color Guard schedule is established each spring. 
• The months listed are approximate, and the annual start and end date will be dictated by the band calendar and the department’s needs. 
• If instructor’s experience is in percussion, we have Winter Percussion from December - March

Salary & Benefits

• Pay Grid:  VPA Marching Band Instructor 
• Pay Grid Range:$3,500 - $7,500 annually
  • The amounts listed above represent the pay for the entire season based on the routine hours that are expected to be worked. The actual pay will be determined by their applicable years of experience. The starting pay listed reflects this position's minimum pay. The top pay range represents the top of the pay grid for this position. It is rare for a candidate to enter this position at the top of the pay grid. Most candidates can expect to enter in the lower to middle section of the pay grid, depending on experience and education.
