Position
Rakuten Rewards is a seeking a temporary contract attorney to support contract review and other legal projects. This role will primarily support the commercial contract function, providing review of procurement contracts, brand and marketing, and product development. We are looking to start this position as soon as possible. This position can be fully remote, fully in office (in San Mateo, CA) or a hybrid of the two.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and revise various agreements, including SaaS Agreements, Technology License Agreements, NDA’s, DPA’s, Service Agreements, Independent Contractor Agreements, TV Production, Agency, and Creative Vendor Agreements.
- Update or create legal policies, contract playbooks, processes, and standard operating procedures by collecting requirements from various legal stakeholders.
- Update and improve templates and clause libraries.
- Review and interpret contracts/terms to create legal summaries in support of diligence projects.
- Web and legal research to inform compliance programs and to educate the department on evolving regulations, policies, and standards affecting the business.
- Assist in the updating or drafting of terms and conditions and privacy notices.
Qualifications
- J.D. with license to practice law, ideally California licensed.
- 4+ years of relevant legal experience (may be a combination of in-house and law firm).
- Strong contract drafting and redlining skills.
- Experience reviewing and negotiating technology agreements and marketing service agreements for a technology company.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage projects from initial idea phases to the final deliverable.
- Ability to work closely with members of the legal department to translate legal concepts and positions into a policy document.
- A diligent, independent worker with a bias towards action and moving projects and deliverables forward.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the eCommerce or tech
- Working privacy knowledge of US privacy laws
