The Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking an R&D Execution Manager to lead the Production Technology Group within the Plutonium Technology Division. The group is comprised of scientists and engineers focused on performing Research & Development activities related to the design and testing of full-scale process equipment, advanced manufacturing principles for optimized plutonium processing, and fundamental plutonium science.
As a Group Manager, you will oversee research staff to ensure work is performed in a safe and secure manner consistent with SRNL values, and that quality deliverables produced meet customer and stakeholder needs. Further, you will set and drive the technical vision for the group while contributing to the direction of the Division.
Responsibilities include:
1) Manage and lead employees within group to deliver excellence.
2) Ensure work performed by group members is carried out safely, responsibly, securely, and in accordance with laboratory principles, policies, and procedures.
3) Set the tone for workplace culture by empowering researchers and maintaining a collaborative work environment.
4) Provide leadership and vision for group by translating directorate and division strategies into actions.
5) Support development of program plans and communicate group capabilities in pursuit of new opportunities that address customer and stakeholder needs.
6) Assist with resource and capability acquisition to enable division and directorate strategy.
Minimum Qualifications:
• BS in science or engineering with 10 years related experience, MS in science or engineering with 7 years related experience, PhD in science or engineering with 5 years related experience.
• Demonstrated successful leadership experience with a scientific or technical team, group, or project.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance for which U.S. Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• An advanced degree in chemistry, materials science and engineering, metallurgy, or related field with relevant research or industrial experience, including experience as a manager in a research or production environment.
• Strong, proven interpersonal communications, problem solving, and human relations skills.
• Experience with defense programs.
• Experience in plutonium science, plutonium processing, and/or advanced manufacturing.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage people, with a strong commitment to the mentoring and development of the next generation of scientists and engineers and understanding the value of diversity and inclusion in a research environment.
• Excellent communication skills with a record of delivering effective and compelling written and oral communications to a broad range of audiences.
• Demonstrated level of success in building research teams and new research capabilities.
• Established research record in a relevant field as evidenced by a publication record of technical reports, peer-reviewed articles, presentations, and/or granted patents.
• Experience ensuring safe, secure, effective, and compliant operations. Ability to proactively mitigate hazards associated with experimental work conducted by group.
• Demonstrated experience in successfully managing complex research operations in the laboratory and/or the field.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships across multiple organizations/agencies and to leverage those relationships to further group research goals and increase business volume.
