SA-TECH currently supports the Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWCAD) Naval Air Systems Command, and the NAWCAD Webster Outlying Field Divisions by providing rapid organic engineering, prototyping, reverse-engineering, environmental testing, antenna repairs and life-cycle extensions, and production capabilities.
We are currently looking to hire a Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning Mechanic (HVAC) Mechanic at our St. Inigoes, MD complex to support our engineering, testing, repair and production facilities.
The following job functions are basic requirements (but other duties may be assigned as well):
- Install, service and repair environmental-control systems in industrial, manufacturing and production facilities, and other commercial establishments.
- Utilize knowledge of refrigeration, heating and ventilation theory.
- Design and implement (and work within existing) pipefitting and structural layouts.
- Mount compressor and condenser units on platforms or floors using hand tools and following blueprints or engineering specifications.
- Fabricate, assemble and install ductwork and chassis parts using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
- Install evaporator units in chassis or in air-duct systems using hand tools.
- Cut and bend tubing to correct lengths and shapes using cutting and bending equipment and tools.
- Cut and thread pipe using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.
- Join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solder joints using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant.
- Install expansion and discharge valves in circuit.
- Connect motors, compressors, temperature and humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels.
- Connect control panels to power sources.
- Install air and water filters in completed installations.
- Inject small amount of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and add Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressures.
- Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation.
- Test joints and connections for gas leaks using gauges or a soap-and-water solution.
- Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure them in place with cement or wire bands.
- Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units.
- May install, repair and service air conditioners, ranging from fifteen to twenty tons cooling capacity in warehouses and small factory buildings.
Work Conditions:
- Conditions will vary.
- Capable of working outdoors and occasionally from elevated work platforms with fall protection harness and in temperatures ranging from 0-120 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Position will include: 45% standing, 20% bending, 15% reaching, 5% sitting, 5% walking, and 10% lifting.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted.
- Overtime is a requirement of this position.
Requirements
Education/Experience/Skills:
- High school education or equivalent.
- Formal trade school, college, or military training school highly desired.
- Mastery of common hand and power tools.
- Minimum of three (3) years of demanding, fast-paced HVAC experience, preferably in an industrial setting.
- In-depth understanding of refrigeration, heating and ventilation theory.
- Experience with tubing, piping, and ductwork of various complexity.
- Experience with a variety of HVAC systems, including installation, modification and repair.
- Current Maryland Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/
