Scholarship: Tabor Global Scholars

Tabor Global Scholars (TGS) is a selective program that allows first-year Tabor students the opportunity to travel and study internationally. The program includes a paid international trip at the end of the student’s first year as part of a spring course taught by Millikin faculty. Furthermore, students will remain Tabor Global Scholars throughout their four years at Millikin by serving as ambassadors for Millikin’s international student population, by mentoring Millikin students wishing to study abroad, and by assisting the Center for International Education with international programming. Tabor Global Scholars will also receive an additional $1,000 scholarship on top of their financial aid package for all four years. This program is designed to offer a transformational experience for first-year Tabor students, thereby enabling Tabor Global Scholars to: 

• Stimulate greater intellectual curiosity early in their college careers 
• Practice democratic citizenship in a global environment 
• Share and reflect upon their experiences with the Millikin community
• Feel more at ease about studying abroad in the future 

  Students eligible for TGS are first-year first-time to college students who have a minimum 3.2 unweighted high school GPA with a declared major within the Tabor School of Business at the time of application (accounting, agribusiness, business communication, communication, cybersecurity, digital marketing, finance, international business, organizational leadership, management, and or management information systems). Preference will be given to students who demonstrate an interest in international education/experiences/travel. 

Application Instructions

Submit a 400-600 word essay articulating your response to the following prompt:

Explain your interest and motivations in the Tabor Global Scholars program. In what ways do you expect that TGS will align with your interests and aspirations related to global citizenship and global engagement? What does the phrase “becoming a democratic citizen in a global environment” mean to you? 

    Students will be selected based on the following criteria with evidence from this essay, application materials, and interview on Scholarship Interview Day: 

1. Perceived effort in application responses. When writing the essay, we are expecting responses that are specific, authentic, and personal, written by you in your own voice. Generic or vague responses written by generative AI will not be accepted. 
   
   
2. Interest in the topics of global citizenship, engagement, and international experiences.
   
   
3. Curiosity and cultural humility: willingness to learn about self and other cultures and engage positively with diverse groups of individuals. 
   
   
4. Potential impact of program involvement on self and the community.
