We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

Dominion Energy has a vacancy for Engineer (Associate to Senior) or Engineering Technical Specialist 1/2/3 in our Electric Distribution Standards team. Job responsibilities may include maintaining our distribution construction manuals and or assigned a material group to manage. Successful candidate will be fully competent in electrical and mechanical engineering concepts. Need full understanding of how electrical distribution system is built and maintained. Understand how various voltages are used to serve industrial, commercial, and residential customers. Previous design or construction experience is preferred. They will be responsible for reading, understanding and applying various codes and guidelines that the distribution system is required to comply with. This would include National electric code, National electric and safety code, Occupational safety and health administration, and the institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers codes. 

 

This role is fully competent in all conventional aspects of the subject matter. Second/Mid-level position in the engineering series provides engineering support in designated company area, or specific engineering discipline. Performs and/or reviews engineering calculations, analysis, research and design. Provides cost analysis as needed and develops recommendation based on calculations (e.g. cost for equipment upgrade) for management review. Distinguished from Associate Engineer by increased complexity in application of engineering skills required. Under direction of supervisor or work leader, exercises independence in evaluating, selecting and applying standard or well-defined engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Uses independent judgment in prioritizing and making moderately complex adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require investigation of a limited number of variables.

**The position will be filled commensurate with the successful candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and education at either Engineer (Associate to Senior), Engineer Technical Specialist I, II, III level, in accordance with business needs and priorities.
 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Associate Engineer = Less than 2 years of relevant engineering experience. 
Engineer = 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Senior Engineer = 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
An Engineering PhD can be substituted for up to 5 years' experience based on research engineering work on directly related projects approved by executive leadership. 

 

Engineering Technical Specialist I = 0 - 2 years of relevant technical experience.
Engineering Technical Specialist II = 2+ years of relevant technical experience.
Engineering Technical Specialist III = 5+ years of relevant technical experience.


Required Knowledge, Skills, Ability and Experience for all roles and levels:

Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals.
Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position (engineering title only).
Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.
Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management.
Planning, organizational and project management skills.
Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills.
Effective decision-making skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
