Ensworth School seeks an exceptional Grade 4 English Language Arts teacher for the 2026-2027 school year who is passionate about building strong readers, writers, and thinkers within a rich, rigorous humanities program.

We are seeking a teacher who brings energy, expertise, and a commitment to best practices in literacy instruction.
The Grade 4 homeroom team consists of 4 teachers in departmentalized classrooms for Humanities and Math/Science. The ELA teacher teaches 2 classes of literacy/ social studies, meeting throughout a 5-day rotating schedule.
Qualified candidates will have earned a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university and have significant English/Literacy experience.
Close collaboration with colleagues is necessary and expected. In partnership with families, teachers work to understand, guide, challenge and nurture their students as the children learn to think creatively and work both cooperatively and independently.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Abides by Ensworth’s Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct

Adheres to the Essential Expectations of an Ensworth Faculty, Staff, or Administrator
Plans, prepares, and delivers age-appropriate math and science lessons to lower school students in grade four
Serves as a homeroom teacher to 16-18 students, as well as teaching literacy/social studies to a combination of other students
Completes quarterly progress report with grades and marks, write narrative comments about students and communicates with parents as necessary
Attends to all required conferencing responsibilities
Maintains a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning
Selects and uses effective instructional methods, technology, and learning materials
Establishes a cooperative relationship with all students
Maintains open lines of communication with parents/guardians
Engages in professional growth activities
Participates in grade level and other meetings as required
Works closely with all Grade 4 teachers
Help with additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications/Experience:
Bachelor’s or higher from an accredited college or university
Prior experience teaching literacy and social studies to upper elementary or lower middle school students is required
Specialized knowledge and/or skills
Advanced understanding and ability to use computers and technology including (e.g., Microsoft Windows and Office products, Google Suite, basic office equipment, projectors, mechanical equipment, etc.)
Well-developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment, including students, co-workers, parents, alumni, volunteers, and the public.
Adaptability, honesty, self-reliance, teamwork, dependability, flexibility, willingness to listen and learn, work ethic, determination, persistence, problem-solving skills, loyalty, and congeniality are essential.
Must successfully complete background screening and verification
Continued Education Programs (as required by Grade Level and/or position) – Periodically participate in different training sessions identified by you, the employee and/or Divisional Leadership/Supervisor with the goal of keeping our teachers and staff up to date with current teaching methods, practices and any new knowledge in their respective field. Dependent on the program, such training may need to take place outside of normal working hours and/or in the summer months.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Regularly works in standard classroom conditions and climate, occasionally works outdoors in varying weather conditions and climate
Regularly uses close and distance vision, ability to observe students from various distances
Frequently required to move around the classroom, frequently positions oneself to work with small children on the floor, frequently moves around campus, etc.
Ability to frequently move items/students weighing up to 30/50 lbs. across the classroom
Frequently works in a occasionally stressful environment, effectively dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions
Ability to regularly work flexible hours to support before and after-school or weekend events
