The Dow Chemical Company Finance organization has an opening for a Senior Director of Global Defined Contribution Plans within the Treasury’s Portfolio Investments (PI) team, located at the company’s World Headquarters in Midland, Michigan.

About You

In this role you will collaborate to design, negotiate, execute, monitor and manage the investment options for the various global defined contribution plans encompassing $10+ billion of assets in the U.S (401k), Canada, U.K., Switzerland, Netherlands and other countries.  The successful candidate will be an ERISA fiduciary, and a key member of the Portfolio Investments team reporting to the President of Insurance, Chief Investment Officer & Global Director of Corporate Venture Capital.  The Portfolio Investments team is the in-house asset manager for the company’s global defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans and Insurance subsidiaries with $30+ billion of assets under management.  This is an excellent opportunity to apply your significant leadership, finance skills, business acumen and investment understanding to contribute to the company’s success.

Your responsibilities include (include but are not limited to):

  • In alignment with the vision of the President of Insurance, Chief Investment Officer & Global Director of Corporate Venture Capital and the various plan investment committees, systematically build and manage a diversified portfolio of investment options that will serve the retirement objectives of participants that is aligned with the company’s benefit plan objectives.  For example:
    • Partner with Human Resources to monitor, enhance and communicate investment options by:
      • Considering feedback from participants.
      • Building and maintaining external networks in the Defined Contribution and Asset Management industry and centers of research excellence to understand developments and influence emerging market trends.
      • Collaborating with advisors and other industry experts to understand and evaluate potential opportunities.
    • Use your expertise to assess the appropriateness of potential investment options for how they may individually, or in combination with a portfolio of other investments, enhance participant objectives.
    • Evaluate various investment vehicles and their terms to optimize the value of opportunities, mitigate risks and expenses.
    • Ensure potential additions and adjustments to the investment options have appropriate effects on potential participant returns, volatility and diversification etc.
  • Serve as a trusted defined contribution investment advisor to the company. For example:
    • Advises, educate, and present on matters related to the defined contribution field and defined contribution investments, their various impacts on a participant’s portfolio, and best practices for effective structuring, implementation, and management.
    • Counsel senior management and provide concise updates as the markets for investment change.
  • Actively lead, develop, mentor, teach and train other members of the teams in all aspects of the company’s defined contribution strategy and practices and be seen as a role-model for all employees.
  • Lead the efficient and orderly execution, monitoring, management and communication of defined contribution strategy and objectives in effective collaboration across multiple other Treasury, company, external functions/processes and service providers such as Human Resources, Compliance, Systems, Planning, Legal, Accounting, Tax, Trustees/Custodians, Asset Managers, Banks, Actuaries, Data Providers, etc. For example:
    • Lead the forecasting of the defined contribution portfolio to ensure the predicted effects on cash-flows, profits, and other metrics are aligned with enterprise expectations.
