Senior R&D Engineer (m/w/d)

Mission

We have a fantastic opportunity in our S&T Team based in Neuwied, Germany. This is a challenging role in which you will be involved in supporting our refractory business in high temperature applications. You will be responsible for developing new refractory products for various high temperature applications such as in Iron and Steel production processes.

Responsibilities

• Supporting & managing R&D projects ensuring quality, cost efficiency and prioritization including the associated documentation and reporting
• Planning and coordinating the experiments and analyses in the S&T laboratory
• Coordination and arrangement of external analyses & characterizations
• Identifying the critical roadblocks during the project and appropriately report to project team Continuous following up with technology intelligence (Literature, IP etc.) and market trends and make use of that information to build the mid- & long term R&D strategies
• Technology transfer from the lab to the production
• Support other internal stakeholders such as Technical Support team and Sales team for R&D related requests such as post-mortem analyses, providing alternative   product solutions etc.
• Application of the internally established methodology and tools for new product/process development and implementation
• Development of partnerships, co-operations and networks in scientific communities as well as participation to technical meetings
• Contribution to training internal/external stakeholders and to the knowledge management and transfer as the refractory specialist

Requirements 

• PhD in Materials Science/Metallurgy/Mineralogy or related engineering field with a focus on refractory materials and 10 years experience in refractory materials and/or applications
• Practical experience in R&D research, project management, product development, preferred in an industrial environment
•  Capability to manage multiple and complex research projects
• Capability to find a balanced solution in the technical as well as business context
• Excellent knowledge and expertise on ceramic raw materials such as Bauxite, Alumina, Clay, SiC, Silica etc. used for refractory products for industrial high temperature applications
• Extensive knowledge on the applications of refractory materials in Iron and Steel production process
• On the one hand, hand-on mentality with enthusiasm, on the other hand, systematic and pragmatic approaches to find technical solutions by planning and prioritizing
• Good skill to communicate well with all levels of internal and external stakeholders and partners
•  High level skills for technical writing and presentations and ability to summarize and present results for the Stage Gate Meetings
• Sound knowledge of thermodynamics and reaction kinetics, as well as the use of FactSage® for thermodynamic calculations is advantageous
• Due to the international work environment, proficient level of English in writing and speaking is required
• Occasional business trips
