Sr. Manager, Economics, Amazon Fresh

The Grocery Management Science team within the WW Grocery Stores Tech organization is looking for a Senior Manager to lead the vision for pricing, promotions, assortment optimization, and catalog quality for Amazon Fresh stores and online experience. This management role provides a unique opportunity to manage a diverse set of scientists, directly partnering with software development, product, and business teams to develop customer facing solutions in production systems.

Key scientific approaches include modelling of key customer behavior (substitutability/complementarity of products, expected demand, price elasticities), optimization modelling to maximize business objectives, experimentation to prove our results, machine learning modelling to determine product classifications and catalog anomalies, and more. This is a high visibility and impact role with the opportunity to collaborate with other science leaders (direct peers) across areas like supply chain optimization and forecasting.

A successful candidate will be able to partner effectively with both business and technical teams, including clear communication of results and the ability to influence a variety of stakeholders. They will be experienced managing a variety of scientists and disciplines and have an eye for scalable solutions that can fit the growing grocery space within our org.


About the team
The WW Grocery Stores team has a broad charter spanning multiple banners worldwide – Amazon Fresh, Amazon Go, Amazon Style, Whole Foods, and third party grocery partnerships.

Basic Qualifications

• Ph.D. in economics or in a related field
• 5-10 years of post-PhD experience
• 7+ years team leadership
• Fluency in at least one statistical software package such as R, Python, Stata, Matlab, SAS
• Experience with causal inference
• Ability to effectively prioritize projects, manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously, and drive projects to completion under tight deadlines
• Proven track record of strong verbal/written communication & data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams across the world

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in multiple science domains within causal inference, experimentation, machine learning, optimization, and structural modelling
• Proficiency in Python
• Experience with algorithm development, software design and analysis of computational complexity
• Effective written and verbal communication both with technical and non-technical audiences

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $324,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
