Maintenance Technician

Purpose of the job:

To help color the world by ensuring that equipment and structures used to grow ornamental flowers are under the right operational conditions. This position must be an advocate for operational efficiency, proper use of company resources, and sustainability mindset while ensuring alignment with company polices and goals.

Job Responsibilities & Duties:

• Perform a variety of duties to maintain, install, troubleshoot, and repair facility indoor and outdoor equipment and structures according to safety and sustainability protocols.
• Greet, direct, and follow up third-party contractors to ensure the proper execution of work orders.
• Ensure proper schedule and services described in services agreement contracts.
• Code invoices related to maintenance services and parts purchases.
• Ensure inventory of parts and tools needed for correct equipment functionalities and repairs.
• Conduct equipment tests to ensure proper functionality and readiness for the upcoming busy season.
• Completes basic electrical work orders, including 110VAC single-phase circuits through 24VAC for process and controls (such as fuses, sockets, exit signs, and ceiling lights).
• Performs basic plumbing tasks, including unclogging and snaking drains, and conducting leaky faucet repairs, including work on copper piping.
• Engages in basic fabricating and finishing of wood and metal products using hand and power tools, as well as welding equipment.
• Executes basic painting and repairs, contributing to facility upkeep by handling tasks like painting, drywall repair, signage installation, lighting replacement, and minor ceiling and floor repairs.
• Conducts basic troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve mechanical, plumbing, office, Greenhouse environmental controls system, HVAC, and electrical issues throughout the facility, ensuring staff safety and usability.
• Conducts routine preventative maintenance inspections of facilities, promptly identifying issues, reporting defects or adverse conditions to the Facility Manager or Maintenance Lead, and managing to correct identified faults.
• In response to employee/building/facilities inquiries and complaints through work orders, provides timely and quality service to staff, as directed by the Facility Manager or Maintenance Lead.
• Conduct the maintenance and repair of building equipment and auxiliary systems, including boilers, HVAC, and Greenhouse environmental controls units, troubleshooting issues, and assisting with routine preventive/scheduled maintenance activities.
• Addresses and contributes to the upkeep of Life Safety Operations (including fire suppression systems, fire detection systems, AED equipment, emergency shower, and eyewash equipment).
• Handles the movement, rearrangement, and installation of furniture systems.
• Maintains clean, safe, and well-organized work areas.
• Assists with all additional duties specific to the Facilities Maintenance Department on-site or on-call, as directed by the Facility Manager.
• Actively participate on marketing events setup and take down.
• Performs other requested duties as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• A valid driver’s license is necessary.
• 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in facilities maintenance and/or equipment maintenance and repair. 
• Completion of an apprenticeship will be highly considered. 
• Knowledge of general mechanical skills and practices.
• Basic plumbing skills, including PVC, copper, and galvanized pipe, as well as landscape irrigation repair.
• Proficiency in basic carpentry skills and the use of hand and power tools.
• Basic welding and metal fabrication skills are ideal.
• Basic paint and drywall repair skills.
• Working knowledge of tools, common appliances, and devices.
• Forklift certification required or ability to become certified.
• Basic math skills and experience with Outlook and general computer skills.
• Ability to identify opportunities that benefit internal customers.

Salary Range: $28-36/hour
