POSITION PURPOSE

The Manager, Pharmacy - Specialty Pharmacy is responsible for the management of specialty pharmacy day to day operations, including oversight of the preparation, dispensing, and proper documentation of patient medication therapy, staff training, scheduling, and coaching, and financial and human resource management.  Assists with strategic planning, quality assessment and improvement, continually evaluates progress toward objectives, and maintains efficient and effective day-to-day operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides meaningful input to directors, vice presidents and executive leadership engaged in strategic planning activities. Analyzes environmental issues as well as quality and financial data in order to assist in developing systematic plans for achievement of goals. Adapts goals and plans to provide response to the environment and successfully meet challenging, but achievable goals.

Ensures that pharmacy service meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders. Acts as a key contact person for nursing, medical, and other professional staff. Serves as a resource for employee decision making and develops individuals for pharmacy leadership positions. Develops and implements strategies to improve stakeholder satisfaction. Participates in inter- and intradepartmental meetings, committees, and task forces as required.

Fosters positive team collaboration and staff development to facilitate efficient operations, employee engagement and achievement of patient quality/safety/satisfaction or customer service excellence goals. Oversees human resource functions including recruitment, training and performance management to maintain the highest quality workforce. Establishes and maintains effective relations with internal and external contacts.

Ensures compliance to all state/federal regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies pertaining to medication management processes. This includes:

• Maintaining an awareness of current regulations and standards which effects pharmaceutical operations
• Identifying areas of risk and implements activities to reduce exposure to noncompliance. Ensuring that variances are documented, investigated, and resolved.
• Effectively collaborating with professional staff (i.e. medical, nursing, and pharmacy) to develop, implement, and monitor quality improvement projects.

Provides effective communication to administration, faculty, management and staff to establish collaborative communication and understanding of the organization mission and strategic goals necessary to achieve operational goals. Meets regularly with other departments and direct reports to facilitate communication, goal setting and decision making. Represents organization to the public and healthcare communities, regulatory agencies, media and government.

Assists in the development of annual budget to ensure appropriate allocation of resources to support operations and meet departmental goals. Manages operational budget including revenue, expenses, staff levels and capital equipment sufficient to meet current and projected patient volume or service requirements.

Assists with implementation and maintains systems and functions to achieve organizational objectives and maximize efficiency of departmental operations. Recruits, interviews and selects staff in collaboration with Human Resources and ensures that staffing guidelines/standards are maintained in accordance with patient care and/or departmental requirements. Maintains appropriate measurements of quality and productivity to evaluate systems and staffing. Assists with development and implementation of policies and management/operational structures to ensure continuous quality care, patient access, customer service excellence and enhanced profitability.

Assists in the dispensing/patient management process as needed.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws/regulations; the Trinity Health Integrity and Compliance Program and Code of Conduct; as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry or specialty pharmacy as normally obtained through a Bachelor's degree or Doctorate of Pharmacy and at least 3 years of pharmacy experience and at least one year of leadership e
