Job Description:

General Description: The Director of Anesthesia Advanced Practice Providers is a clinician and administrative leader who provides strategic vision and oversight, coordination, and integration of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA), Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants (CAA), and other Advanced Practice Providers (APP) that support the areas of Anesthesiology throughout the OU Health System.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the strategic oversight of Anesthesia Advanced Practice Providers to include CRNAs, CAAs, and other Anesthesia APRN/PAs, in collaboration with Physician teams and operations/business leaders.

  • Supports key strategic initiatives and patient safety goals of the Health System and the Office for Advanced Practice (OAP).

  • Supports OAP and system wide projects that are aimed at advancing CRNA, CAA, PA and APRN practice, education, and research initiatives. 

  • Serves as the expert for CRNA, CAA, and Anesthesiology APP related questions and/or issues for health system partners.

  • Remains current on national and regional trends and changes within the CRNA, CAA, and Anesthesiology APP roles, the organization, and health care delivery system.

  • Facilitates hiring & orientation of new CRNAs, CAAs and Anesthesiology APPs (in collaboration with business and medical leaders, and any applicable APP managers and/or directors).

  • Oversees Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and facilitates opportunities for professional development and clinical competency validation.

  • Completes performance evaluations in collaboration with Physician team.

  • Time, attendance, and schedule oversite in collaboration with practice team.

  • CME benefit tracking.

  • Aligns APP clinical work expectations with patient care needs, and provides avenues for creative solutions for work/life harmony.

  • Supports OU Health mission and vision with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Clinical department reporting for practice responsibilities.

  • Maintains CRNA patient care practice. Effort to be determined.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing required. Relative Doctoral degree preferred.

  • Graduate of a nurse anesthesia education program, accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) Council of Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs required.

Experience: 5 or more years of clinical practice required as a CRNA. 5 to 7 years of progressive leadership experience required.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s):  Active RN and APRN-CRNA licensure from Oklahoma Board of Nursing and board certification required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proven ability to provide leadership in a complex environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in building strong working relationships with a collaborative and inclusive leadership style.

  • Evidence of successful collaborations with APPs and Physician colleagues.

  • Demonstrated ability to be engaging and persuasive with strong teamwork skills, politically astute, diplomatic, and able to manage by influence.

  • Flexible and capable of responding to multiple demands in a time-sensitive manner.

  • Ability to exercise thoughtful judgment in all matters related to CRNAS, CAAs, and APPs.

  • Sufficient with MS Office applications.

  • Must understand basic concepts related to billing and revenue.

  • Excellent working knowledge of the CRNA, CAA and APRN/PA scope of practice.
