Job Description:

Summary:

The Digital Media Assistant will support the Student Affairs communications team through photography, videography, and digital content creation. Under the supervision of the Digital Content Coordinator, the Digital Media Assistant will gain experience in event photography, videography, digital storytelling for social media, and digital asset management.

Essential Functions:

1.) Photography

  • Capture high-quality photos at Student Affairs and campus events.

  • Color correct and edit photos for social media and other digital platforms.

  • Organize and curate Student Affairs photos in a digital library.

2.) Videography

  • Capture high-quality video at Student Affairs and campus events.

  • Log and color correct video footage for video projects.

  • Edit videos for vertical and horizontal formats.

3.) Digital Storytelling

  • Produce videos highlighting student organizations and other student stories for social media (Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.) and other digital platforms.

  • Brainstorm and develop new digital student-centric series using Student Affairs photo and video library for social media.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • 7 - 10 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $18.40 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Full-time undergraduate student at American University.

  • Student must have an active Federal Work Study (FWS) award.

  • Strong photo, video, and communications skills.

  • Prior experience with photography and videography is required.

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or similar software for photo and video editing.

  • Detail-oriented, organized, creative, and able to manage multiple tasks at once.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Prior experience with Canon DSLR cameras is preferred.

  • Prior experience with content creation for social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube, etc.) is preferred.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • 7 - 10 hours per week during normal business hours with occasional work outside of traditional hours per job duties.
