PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Salary to be commensurate with experience.
The hiring range for this position is $70,448 - $88, 061/annually

The full salary range for this position is $70,448 - $110,076/annually

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT
Housing and Community Services consists of four divisions: Neighborhood Support, Animal Services, Housing and Community Development, and Community Engagement. The mission of the Housing and Community Development Department is to maintain community appearance and enhance the quality of life in Aurora’s neighborhoods. This is accomplished through a combination of community outreach, education, code enforcement, and numerous neighborhood improvement programs and services. The staff is dedicated to forming partnerships with neighborhoods, residents, and community groups to strengthen and enhance both the social fabric and physical aspects of Aurora neighborhoods.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct supervision of Animal Care Protection Officers:

  • Plans, assigns, monitors, and coordinates the work activities of personnel

  • Maintains skills, knowledge, and abilities of Animal Protection Officers and performs those duties as required

  • Ensures coverage for dispatch, euthanasia, cremation and front office duties

  • Maintains roll call and approves leave requests

  • Approves staff reports and summonses

  • Makes recommendations regarding selecting, hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and discipline of assigned employees

Customer/Community Service: 

  • Receives and responds to citizen’s complaints

  • Conducts daily and weekly briefing and debriefings

  • Addresses citizen groups and the media when required

  • Oversees case filings at local and state levels

  • Resolves problems and conflicts arising during the course of the work

  • Testifies in court on behalf of the City

  • Ensures effective enforcement of municipal and state animal care ordinances

  • Maintains and enforces safety regulations and procedures

  • Conducts field investigations/inspections

Program Management:

  • Coordinates the division’s disaster planning program/meetings

  • Assists in the pet licensing program

  • Coordinates preventative maintenance programs

  • Takes a lead role in the development of field related policies and procedures

  • Prepares productivity and activity reports

  • Maintains records and makes recommendations concerning materials, staff, equipment used and uniforms

  • Makes recommendations regarding budgetary matters

  • Familiar with the principles/procedures of computer systems with related software

  • Maintains vehicle computers and laptops

  • Monitors City vehicles assigned to Animal Services Division
