Reports To: Clinic Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Hours: 40/week

Shift: Days, Monday - Friday

WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR FCMC

Our Medical Assistant/Laboratory Technician cares for patients under the direction of a physician, working alongside providers and clinical staff to collect specimens, assess and educate patients, and assist with procedures. More specifically, these important responsibilities include:

  • Obtaining and documenting patient history and reason for seeking care in Electronic Medical Record (EMR); entering provider orders into EMR as authorized; and reviewing patient EMR prior to scheduled appointments
  • Rooming patients, obtaining vitals, and documenting appropriate information in the EMR
  • Preparing for and assisting the physician or provider with in-office procedures
  • Performing medical office functions, including: ear irrigation, peak flow meters, venipuncture, injections or immunizations, in-house labs, and preparing biopsy specimens
  • Communicating with patients over the phone to assess, give instruction, and provide test results
  • Completing referrals to specialists and following up as needed
  • Partnering with patient care coordinators to provide patient assistance
  • Completing and tracking prior authorizations
  • Performing basic triage per specific office protocols; recognizing and responding appropriately to urgent/emergent situations
  • Assisting the provider with patient education including results of lab and X-ray reports, proper diet and exercise, and laboratory and radiology preparation
  • Maintaining work area, instruments, and medical supplies, including sterilizing equipment, stocking medical supplies, and maintaining exam rooms
  • Updating and filing all daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs
  • Recording proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents 
  • Attending daily huddles, scrubbing charts beforehand and documenting discussions afterwards


Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of accredited medical assistant program
  • 1 year of experience in an office environment is preferred
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, uses and care of laboratory equipment, basic physiology, and protocol for aseptic procedures
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding procedures
  • Knowledge of medications and injection procedures
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in faxing and email and collaboration systems (e.g. 365, Google, Monday)
  • A service-minded work ethic with a drive to meet client care needs and a positive attitude when faced with ambiguity and change
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate
  • Ability to interact effectively with people from widely differing backgrounds
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral, in English
  • Interpersonal and conflict resolution skil
