Wellabe is seeking a hybrid Sr Investment Accountant who play a crucial role in managing and overseeing the Company's
investment accounting activities. This position requires a deep understanding of investment strategies,
financial reporting, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will be adept at navigating change
and driving improvements in our investment accounting processes.
Be successful in this role
Someone in this role will be able to do the following essential functions:
- Investment Accounting: Manage and oversee the accounting for the company's investment
portfolio, including fixed income, equities, and alternative investments, and the external third-party
investment accounting relationship. - Financial Reporting: Prepare and review complex investment accounting entries, reconciliations,
schedules, and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Statutory accounting standards. - Analysis and Reporting: Conduct detailed analysis and provide insightful reports to senior
management to inform strategic decision-making. - Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards,
including monitoring changes in regulations and implementing necessary adjustments. - Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements and lead initiatives to
streamline investment accounting processes and procedures. - Change Management: Support the Company through upcoming changes in the investment
industry, insurance regulation, and the Company investment strategy by providing expertise in
investment accounting and associated reporting. - Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including finance, treasury, and risk
management, to ensure cohesive and comprehensive financial strategies. - Leadership: Lead, direct, mentor, and coach less experienced staff; either indirectly or through
supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field. Combination of education and/or relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
- CPA or CFA preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in investment accounting, preferably within the insurance industry.
- Strong knowledge of Statutory Accounting and regulatory requirements along with the ability to ensure compliance and provide documentation both internally and externally
- Proven ability to manage and understand complex investment accounting and reporting
- Excellent organizational, communication and other interpersonal skills
- Advanced analytical skills with the ability to assess and resolve problems proactively, think critically and methodically, and use logic and make sound decisions
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage time, projects/resources and set priorities to maintain efficient workflow
- Ownership mindset for all aspects of the role
- Experience with change management and process improvement initiatives in both a leading and performance capacity
- Proficiency in financial software, investment accounting systems (Clearwater), MS Office Suite
