A Brief Overview
This role can perform laboratory-based testing procedures and/or environmental monitoring of the facility. In addition, the role performs and/or supports all aspects of test performance including pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases of testing. This role may also be responsible for the preparation, quality control, and maintenance of quality control (QC) materials, standard calibration materials used in laboratory testing and maintenance of equipment. This role ensures the accuracy, consistency, and compliance of all materials with regulatory and laboratory standards to support high-quality and reliable test results at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. This includes monitoring laboratory processes, conducting quality control tests, maintaining compliance with laboratory standards, and implementing corrective actions when necessary, participating in and/or assisting with planning and coordination, reviewing of records, drafting of documents, training and supervision of junior personnel commensurate with experience.
What you will do
- Quality Control Monitoring:
- o Perform regular checks and tests on laboratory equipment, instruments, and reagents to ensure they are functioning correctly.
- o Monitor, prepare, and verify that laboratory testing procedures adhere to quality control protocols.
- o Perform internal audits and reviews to assess laboratory processes and procedures for compliance with standards and regulations.
- o Performs environmental monitoring, Reviews environmental monitoring records
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- o Analyze quality control data, identify trends, and document findings in detailed reports.
- o Prepare documentations for Manager/Supervisor monthly review.
- o Review and maintain records of test results, equipment performance, and quality control documentation.
- o Report deviations from expected results and assist in identifying and resolving issues.
- Compliance and Standards Adherence:
- o Ensure laboratory operations are compliant with regulatory bodies
- o Participate in regulatory inspections and accreditations as necessary.
- o Implement corrective and preventive actions based on quality control outcomes.
- Training and Support:
- o Provide training to laboratory staff on quality control practices, equipment usage, and compliance standards.
- o Assist in troubleshooting issues related to laboratory testing, equipment, and procedures.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- o Coordinate regular maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- o Ensure that all equipment meets the required operational standards and is regularly serviced.
- Problem Resolution:
- o Investigate and troubleshoot quality control problems, providing recommendations for improvements.
- o Work collaboratively with laboratory leaders and personnel to develop and initiates change requests, incident reports and planned deviations when necessary.
- Drafts SOPs and work instructions and develops new QC methods
- Performs general lab duties and other duties as assigned.
Schedule
- Day Shift (9:30AM or 10:00AM to 3:00PM or 3:30PM)
- At least 20hrs per week (5 hours a day / 4 times a week)
- Additional hours may be required due to work load
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Required
- Master's Degree Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- At least one (1) year of quality control experience Required
- At least three (3) years of quality control experience Preferred
- At least three (3) years of experience working in a clinical laboratory environment Preferred
