What are we looking for?

We have an opening for a knowledgeable and experienced Lead Auditor to join our Certification Body. This individual will conduct GFSI benchmarked audits, HACCP verification audits, and other third-party audits at food manufacturing and distribution facilities. The Ideal Candidate will be a purpose-driven professional and able to begin auditing immediately, capable of communicating complicated ideas and regulations, and proficient in writing sound and complete audit reports. You must be highly organized, manage your time, and possess excellent customer service skills when conducting an audit. 


Responsibilities

  • Conduct third-party HACCP, BRC, SQF PrimusGFS, or other scope supplier or food facility audits in a variety of food processing and related environments. 
  • Maintain confidentiality and impartiality of work and adhere to all procedures established by Safe Food Certifications, LLC (CB) to comply with ISO 17065 and GFSI Scheme requirements and its certificated sites. 
  • Maintain positive client relationships and respond to all client inquiries and concerns
  • Ensure timeliness, consistency, and accuracy for conducting audits and writing audit reports. 
  • Follow and adhere to all required protocols and procedures of the certification body, scheme standards, and accreditation body. 
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulations and standards
  • Must maintain professionalism at all times: integrity, honesty, impartiality, and reporting any potential conflicts of interest.
  • Maintain applicable professional development and training required for audit proficiency; maintain training records. 


The Ideal Candidate

This position requires a food safety leader who is impartial, technical, and proactive. The ideal candidate will be passionate about food safety and have an open and collaborative style. They will be accessible with an infectious “can do” attitude, a team player, and passionate about contributing to the growth of the organization. The ideal candidate will possess the preferred experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as follows: 

  • Knowledge of the dried fruit and nut, dairy, beverage, bakery, canning, ingredient manufacturing, and juice industries is desirable, but not required. Multiple Food Sector Categories are a plus! 
  • Strong knowledge of GMPs, food safety practices and management systems, HACCP, QMS, SQF, BRC, or other GFSI Benchmarked schemes, and current regulatory requirements is required. 
  • Direct experience performing third-party audits (GMP, HACCP, and GFSI benchmarked schemes). Must have an ongoing audit history log demonstrating industry experience and audit hours required for renewal of auditor credentials and maintaining credentials. 
  • Primary production experience or pre-farm gate auditing experience if any is beneficial.
  • Must complete a period of supervised training (witness audits) by Safe Food Certification as an onboarding and comply with GFSI benchmarked scheme requirements.
Requirements

Education and Experience 

The following are some of the personal and professional qualities we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Food Engineering, or related field. 
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a quality assurance role or food safety and regulatory compliance within a food manufacturing facility and broad knowledge/experience of various food-beverage processing operations. 
  • Registered ASQ HACCP, BRC, or SQF Auditor (with all required training requirements such as a recognized five-day Lead Auditor (Third Party) Training course, Completed a recognized (two-day minimum) HACCP training course with examination, GFSI scheme related QMS training, etc.).
  • Must have current auditor credentials for BRC, SQF, Primus GFS, or equivalent; or a combination of credentials highly preferred. Must be able to show credentials either SQF Certificate with categories and BRCGS must be validated on BRCGS directory.
  • A minimum of 80% travel, including overnight stay. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, soft auditing skills, communication (written and verbal) skills, and attention to detail. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. 
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible within a changing work environment. 
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and GFSI benchmarked scheme system database, if any.
