About the role

Overview

This position is responsible for assisting the Pharmacy Purchasing Agent in all aspects of purchasing, delivering, charging, and inventory. Performs variety of duties related to ordering and stocking pharmaceuticals and supplies in accordance with organizational guidelines for cost and quality.

Responsibilities

Performs or assists the buyer in the daily purchasing of medications from the prime vendor. Keys in the order in the computer system and transmits to vendor on time. Checks in order daily against invoices. Investigates and takes appropriate action on purchase order discrepancies. Communicates identified problems with management. Keeps track of backorders and orders appropriate alternatives if necessary. Maintains >90% contract compliance.--------------------------------------------------Keeps adequate stock while maintaining the inventory within budget. Coordinates the purchasing of slow-moving items with the other campuses. Expedites acquisition of critical orders and keeps requester advised of order status and delivery timeframe. Performs or assists with direct and other non-vendor purchases.--------------------------------------------------Performs or assists buyer with orders for ancillary department stock requests and delivers promptly. Completes interdepartmental billing statements or appropriate invoicing to ancillary areas.--------------------------------------------------Keeps medication shelves organized and labeled correctly. Rotates stock appropriately. Coordinates activities required prior to scheduled inventories. Calculates and submits final inventory totals to finance and management.--------------------------------------------------Performs or assists buyer with invoice tracking, end-of-month reports, rebates, and billing. Keeps purchasing and narcotic records as required. Initiates drug recalls and maintains appropriate paperwork. Organizes efforts with return company in handling out-of-date medications.--------------------------------------------------Assists in packaging medications in unit dose form when necessary. Compounds bulk items for various departments and keeps appropriate records--------------------------------------------------Attends mandatory in-service education programs and voluntarily participates in appropriate staff development--------------------------------------------------

Qualifications

EDUCATION:High School Diploma or equivalent, Required EXPERIENCE:Hospital pharmacy technician experience of one year required and two years total of work experience is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIRED:Pharmacy technician certification through PTCB or NHA prior to hire. Pharmacy Technicians must register with the NC Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of hire as a Pharmacy Tech. Pharmacy students that are currently enrolled in a school of pharmacy are not required to register with the NC Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician.PREFERRED:Technician certification preferred.
