I. Job Summary
Operates truck/tractor, and trailer combinations with skill and proficiency conforming to all regulations required for a commercial hauler and Non Hazardous / Hazardous waste transporter.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates truck/tractor in combination with trailer, flatbed, roll-off frame, van, or straight truck.
- Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Performs minor maintenance including, but not limited to, checking and adding fluids, checking tires, safety mechanism operations, and other maintenance related to vehicle inspection or safe operation.
- Loads, unloads and transports non hazardous / hazardous material from customer locations.
- Operates hydraulic loading mechanisms on roll-off trailers.
- Operates hose connections and pumps on vacuum trailers.
- Operates mechanisms such as chains and binders which may be part of a particular vehicle including end dumps, flatbeds, and vans.
- Transports and sometimes unloads non hazardous / hazardous material for off-site disposal.
- Reviews, signs, and retains appropriate copies of all hazardous waste manifests.
- Insures that loads have proper placards.
- Insures that small containers have proper warning label or marking.
- Insures that the material being hauled is compatible with other materials in the same shipment.
- Maintains shipment records and driver/vehicle maintenance logs, including on-board computer information.
- Tarps and un-tarps.
- Installs liner in end dump and roll-off.
- Removes and installs side boards on flatbeds.
- Reports traffic violations and accidents immediately.
- Insures that load is secure prior to transport.
- Responds to emergencies that are within the scope of training received.
- Maintain a professional attitude while performing all job tasks.
- Maintain equipment an appearance.
- Plans time in order to meet appointments.
- Calls dispatcher at least once a day.
- Reference site-specific procedures and more detailed site-specific job descriptions.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
III. Qualifications
A. Required Qualifications
- No experience 3 years verifiable commercial driving experience, including one-year experience on similar equipment
- Class A CDL with Hazmat endorsement The CDL is a requirement, therefore, an applicant must be 21 years of age.
