Entertainment - Costume Technician (Steady-Extra)

Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Costume Construction & Wardrobe, the Costume Technician will be required to:

• Construct costumes with accuracy, consistency and great attention to detail.
• Follow direction and preserve the integrity of the costume designs while maintaining a high level of quality.
• Complete costume alterations.
• Assist with performer costume fittings,
• Perform daily costume maintenance and repairs.
• Adhere to all company and departmental safety policies with emphasis on maintaining a safe working environment.
• Adhere to all OSHA regulations.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Job Experience/Education

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of (5) years' experience working as a costume technician in a costume shop or in a similar position for a large-scale theatrical or production show.
• Experience with theatrical costume construction; must have advanced sewing skills.
• Experience with hand sewing.
• Experience with high volume costume production.
• Experience with a wide variety of costume production.
• Experience with a wide variety of costume construction techniques.
• Experience with costume alterations.
• Experience with general costume maintenance, repairs and cleaning methods.
• Experience working with lighted costumes (LED, Fiber Optics, etc.) is not required but would be an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must possess knowledge of different fabrics, materials, techniques and costume terminology.
• Must be highly organized and able to function in a stressful environment.
• Must be able to produce high quality work in a limited time frame.
• Must possess strong problem solving and time management skills.
• Must be able to work well under pressure and adapt to changes quickly.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with others and develop positive interpersonal relationships with coworkers.
• Must work well in a team environment.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule (evenings, weekends and holidays).
• Ability to drive as required. Must have a valid Nevada Driver's License and be able to drive your own vehicle or a company vehicle.
• Must have the ability to work with individuals from different cultures and backgrounds.
• Knowledge of OSHA health and safety protocols is required.
• Must have a current OSHA 10 General Industry Safety Card.

Machines, Tools, and Equipment Utilized

Specialized Theatre Equipment, Sewing Machines, Sergers, Irons, Garment Steamer, Hot Plate, Washing Machines, Dryers, Electric and Foot Press Grommet Setter, Scissors and Hand tools; other specific tools and equipment as needed per the requirements of the department and the show.
