Director of Strategic Procurement

Go Maverick Group has a client looking for a Director of Strategic Procurement. This person will be responsible for the following: define strategies for all activities related to reliable, cost-effective procurement practices and include pricing agreements for all commodity raw materials; recommend the most cost effective and reliable supplier base; minimize in-bound transportation costs and risks, as well as establish supplier agreements that ensure the best supply, pricing and quality. Additionally, you will negotiate with suppliers; oversee cost projections for budgeting purposes; and monitor PPV to ensure cost effectiveness.  You will also control client assets that are physically located at strategic suppliers to include periodic physical inventory counts and ensure key purchasing variables, such as manufacturing, transportation lead-times, and minimum order quantities do not lead to product shortages or excess.

Job Duties:

• Responsible for understanding the commodity raw material markets with the ability to negotiate beneficial supply agreements that minimize price volatility, ensures lowest cost and reduces risk to the company
• Establish and ensure all purchase order approval guidelines/policies are well documented, understood and adhered to, within all levels of the organization
• Understand product requirements and formulates a supplier-base strategy that supports competition, cost and service objectives. Includes control of in-bound freight for all materials. Establishes a cadence for strategy review, RFP’s and supplier development.
• Review competitive proposals and negotiates contracts with acceptable vendors within the category strategy
• Measure supplier performance and addresses issues in a timely manner
• Provide timely reporting of Procurement KPI’s, pricing changes and future considerations that support a nimble process for implementing alternatives
• Establish goals and provide timely feedback to direct reports in support of key performance objectives, while helping to resolve shortcomings in performance
• Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the procurement process
• Interact at all levels within the organization to share purchasing outcomes and concerns
• Implement appropriate strategies to support key financial objectives, along with manufacturing and warehousing efficiencies
• Engages in the NPD process to support cost affective development and implementation
• Manages remote purchasing activity, specifically China
• Represent the company to suppliers in an appropriate, professional manner with the highest level of integrity

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering or related field of study
• 7+ years related procurement experience, prior purchasing in the plastics industry a plus
• Verifiably strong negotiating skills
• Proven track record building positive working relationships with operations and vendors
• Ability to interact productively with all levels of company management and production lines
• Must be able to function in a high-pressure, fast paced environment
• Capable of adapting to and accommodating for changing market conditions
• Excellent communication skills
• Proactive, go-getter mentality, who's not afraid to roll up their sleeves and help where they can.
• Demonstrate leadership qualities and a collaborative approach
• Desire to be involved in new product development initiatives, providing recommendations on materials, efficiencies and cost savings
• Previous consumer goods experience is highly desirable
• Occasional travel required
