Overview
The College of Science Business Services Team seeks a Business Manager I to manage and coordinate the business operations of the Department of Computer Science. Incumbent will oversee activities such as budget preparation and control, human resources administration, accounts payable and receivable, and contract and grant accounting.
The Business Manager I reports to the College of Science Financial Officer and will work closely with the head, faculty, and staff in the Department of Computer Science.
This position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Utah.
Responsibilities
- Functions as a primary resource and business consultant to the Department Head, faculty, and business services staff in the Department of Computer Science and the College of Science
- Oversees and manages daily activities and transactions within assigned areas, including purchsasing/p-card, financial banner, travel, tuition awards/scholarships, graduate teaching and research assistantships, startup, and personnel functions
- Coordinates financial aspects of proposals, contracts, grants, etc. Assists staff in administering proposals to ensure compliance with federal, state, and University policies
- Performs budget preparation, budget reconciliation, EPAF request, data management, and fiscal information support
- Manages and reviews all department accounts; including scholarships, course fees, E&G, F&A, etc.
- Generates monthly/annual reports of account budgets, expenditures, and forecasting.
- Ensures payroll is properly recorded and processed
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum 4 years of financial/business/management related responsibilities OR a Bachelor's degree in a business related field
- Possesses and applies advanced skills and knowledge of financial principles, practices, and concepts to the position
- Familiarity with management reporting tools
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of USU's Banner, AggieTime, EZBuy, Aggie Handshake, and Argos systems.
- Knowledge/experience with Travel processes and procedures at USU
- Knowledge/experience working with tuition waivers/scholarship processes at USU
- Direct experience with post-award contact and grant management
- Familiar with USU Policies and Procedures
- Contributes positively and proactively in a team environment in order to meet unit goals
- Provides proactive and excellent customer service to constituents at all levels
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures
- Knowledge of finance enterprise systems and software.
- Computer skills, including Excel and Windows.
- Knowledge of the contracting process and associated local, state, federal, and other regulations.
- Knowledge of management reporting systems.
- Problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
- Skilled in budget preparation and fiscal management.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and/or projections.
- Knowledge of software to quantify and illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, impacts, and/or projections.
- Highly professional while working productively and independently on progressively more complex projects/assignments
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to make coherent and appropriate decisions in a timely manner
- Strong work ethic--commits to integrity and performs duties with diligence
