Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization, Maritime and Intelligence Systems (M&IS) Division is seeking a Lead or Senior Linux System Administrator with (Level 4 or 5) to join our Mission Systems Operations team in Herndon, VA.  Our team focuses on delivering complex solutions in some of the most challenging environments on Earth. Position Overview:

The Linux System Administrator you will be a part of a high-performing team.  As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to be an integral part in developing hardware and software solutions for our client’s proprietary programs. This role will include translating customer needs into detailed requirements for system integrated designs including system architectures for current operations and program growth, facility design, hardware selection, software selection and development, system integration, testing, and operations and maintenance (O&M).

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform system integration; hardware and software installation, configuration, and disposition of servers and workstations to support the architecture.

  • Install, configure, and maintain multi-platform systems, hardware, software, and components.

  • Plan, develop, design, integrate, and maintain all computer applications, including specialized applications specific to program objectives.

  • Plan and coordinate highly complex software and hardware for enterprise release.

  • Ensure systems conform to architectural objectives.

  • Evaluate complex system production readiness and supportability.

  • Perform the restoration of complex computing service operations.

  • Perform complex system problem identification and resolution.

  • Integrate security solutions into information systems.

  • Monitor system performance to support capacity planning, backup, and disaster recovery planning.

  • Use knowledge of both Linux and Windows administration.

Work Authorization:

This position requires an active U.S. TS/SCI Security Clearance with a Full Scope Poly (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active). 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 5 years or more of experience troubleshooting complex network problems

  • 5 years or more of experience in communicating with customer representatives in a variety of forums, in both written and spoken form, regarding technical subjects.

  • 5 years or more leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

  • 5 years or more of experience working with virtual environment.

Typical Education/Experience:

Level 4

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience, 13 years' related work experience, etc.)

Level 5

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience, 18 years' related work experience, etc.).
