The N&T Division Chief leads the Network & Telecom Division in the RCIT Department, essentially acting as the Director of that division. Occasionally fills in for the CIO when the CIO is not available.
This position provides leadership, vision, personnel management, and budgetary oversight to the Network & Telecom Division.
This person is a confident leader and manager who can motivate and unify highly technical networking teams. Looks for opportunities to use technology and platform advancements to create and maintain a secure and fully resilient technical environment that supports all of the county’s software, hardware, mobile, and cloud technologies. Contributes to the department’s IT Strategic Plan. Continuously seeks to provide proactive, realistic, and fiscally sound solutions to short, middle, and long range technology needs and goals. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Transforms real-world needs into practical and state-of-the-art technology.
Recommends the deployment of new technologies, systems, procedures, and policies to improve the security, efficiency, and effectiveness of Richland County’s WAN/LAN/SAN/VoIP environment. Performs and/or oversees feasibility studies and cost/benefit analyses on new technology opportunities.
Regularly coordinates technology meetings with Richland County department heads and their designated representatives. Regularly coordinates meetings with technology and/or business leaders from other government agencies such as city, county, state, regional, national, non-profit, university, as well as with leaders from private industry. Represents Richland County at local, regional, and national network and telecom events, meetings, and user groups.
This position regularly interacts with outside consultants, vendors, and elected officials. Travels to local, regional, and national technology meetings and events.
Manages and supervises the N&T Division’s middle-managers and their corresponding staffs.
Reports to the Chief Information Officer (CIO).
Education
A Bachelors degree is preferred in a field related to this position. Must be able to supply written proof of completion for all course work and/or degrees that are being used to satisfy the minimum education requirements. This degree requirement may be waived if applicant has extensive professional and practical experience as well as networking/telecom certifications.
Certifications
Preferred certifications are CCNA and/or MCSE and/or CISO and/or MSDBA
