The Georgetown University Center for Global Health Practice and Impact (CGHPI) serves countries to improve their population health and well-being and to safeguard against health-related threats by advancing the use of evidence and human-centered enterprise architecture on the path towards achieving equity and social justice. To achieve this mission, we catalyze the uptake, spread, and implementation of innovations; triangulate data from different sources, and tailor visualization of the information for each audience; design and implement integrated service delivery models; support communities of practice to inform policy and practice through efficient data use and horizontal and vertical collaboration; disseminate best practices and evidence globally through open source learning networks; build global, collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and inter-professional networks; undertake research that is informed by local needs; and invest in local leadership to own, provide oversight, and sustain implemented interventions. To advance its mission the Center seeks a Principal Associate & Chief of Staff to the Center Director.
The Principal Associate | Chief of Staff provides executive support to the Center Director in a one-on-one working relationship. They serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on all matters pertaining to the Office of the Center Director. The incumbent also serves as a liaison to the board of advisors, senior management teams and field resident directors; organizes and coordinates Center Director’s outreach and external relations efforts, overseeing special projects. The Principal Associate | Chief of Staff will have the ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
Complete a broad variety of administrative tasks for the Director including managing an active calendar of appointments, completing expense reports, composing and preparing correspondence that is sometimes confidential, arranging complex and detailed travel plans, itineraries, and agendas, and compiling documents for travel-related meetings.
Plan, coordinate, and ensure the Director’s schedule is followed and respected, providing "gatekeeper" and "gateway" role, creating win-win situations for direct access to the Director's time and office.
Communicate directly, and on behalf of the Director, with sponsors, Center faculty and staff, and others, on matters related to the Director’s strategic, managerial and programmatic initiatives.
Research, prioritize, and follow up on incoming issues and concerns addressed to the Director, determining the appropriate course of action, referral, or response over issues addressed to the Director’s office.
Provide a bridge for smooth communication between the Director's office and internal business units, demonstrating leadership to maintain credibility, trust, and support with senior management staff.
Provide leadership to build relationships crucial to the success of the Center, and manage a variety of special projects for the President, some of which may have organizational impact.
Successfully complete critical aspects of deliverables with a hands-on approach, including drafting personal correspondence, presentations and other tasks that facilitate the Director's ability to effectively lead the Center.
Serve as the Director’s administrative liaison to the Center’s field leadership team.
Participate as an adjunct member of the Senior Management Team including assisting in scheduling meetings and attending all meetings, and coordinating the agenda of senior management team meetings and all-staff meetings.
Edit and complete first drafts for written communications to external stake holders, strategy documents, and presentations, summarizing the Director’s review of proposals, manuscripts, and reports as assigned.
