Begin your career in the insurance industry with a paid internship at 2022’s Denver Post Top Workplace with Colorado’s largest provider of workers’ compensation insurance, Pinnacol Assurance! The goal of the placement will be to get interested applicants real life, hands-on exposure to critical insurance operations functions with particular focus on actuarial processes. Successful participants will have opportunities to explore ongoing employment beyond the internship depending on the candidate's interest, schedule and performance review at the end of the program.
What you'll do:
Engage in a range of analyses aimed to gain insights and develop effective business solutions. Projects will be related to pricing, reserving, financial outcomes, and various risk evaluations as needed. Projects will involve data accumulation, organization, and analysis of both internal company and external data sources. Intern will be expected to gain a strong understanding of supporting methodologies and analyses. Analyses to be performed in a timely fashion.
What you can expect:
- Accumulate, investigate, and organize data in support of projects.
- Develop and perform analyses independently or in coordination with manager as appropriate.
- Make clear presentations with fluent supporting arguments and detail.
- Enhance and broaden current approaches to gain further insights.
- Gain understanding of applicable actuarial and analytical principles and methodologies.
Learning Objectives: We hope that this experience will help our interns become more familiar with workers’ compensation policy and practice as well as provide a rich experiential learning opportunities to apply skills, concepts, and knowledge from the school into a real-world context. Some key learning objectives our interns can expect to develop are:
- Learn about Property and Casualty Insurance and Colorado’s Workers Compensation system
- Be challenged to apply their analytical skill and actuarial knowledge to business problems
- Learn to work with others in developing analyses and business solutions
- Learn to develop and defend methodologies, conclusions, and solutions
- Develop business acumen, communication, and time management skills
What you need to be successful:
- Will be making good progress towards a degree in Actuarial Science/Mathematics/Statistics or similar
- Have working knowledge with Microsoft Office, Excel or similar software
- Have working knowledge in programming languages such as SQL, R, SAS, Python or similar languages
- Have strong written and oral communication skills
- Have a strong GPA
- Will be strongly considered if they have passed any Actuarial exams

Additional Details: Interns will be paid $26-$30/hr. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including your experience and expertise.
