A Brief Overview
Assists in drug preparation, storage, distribution, and inventory management within a variety of pharmacy environments Works under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. Provides advanced service in at least two specific areas of pharmacy practice.
What you will do
- Under pharmacist supervision, accurately inputs and/or prepares labels and packages inpatient or outpatient medication orders and prescriptions to maintain an efficient, accurate, and high-quality medication delivery system.
- Successfully communicates with nursing staff, physicians, customers, co-workers, supervisors, and management and participates in interdepartmental work groups and committees as assigned to promote high-quality communication and prevent patient harm.
- Demonstrates proficient knowledge of medications, calculations, regulations and regulation limitations, personal protective equipment, and promotion of patient safety to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance.
- Performs clerical functions such as, but not limited to, billing and pharmacy inventory to promote an efficient medication distribution system.
- Assists with the collection and maintenance of records as needed by the Pharmacy Department and applicable accreditations such as Utilization Review Accreditation Commission, Joint Commission Accreditation, NIOSH, OSHA, and other accreditations as may be required by law, practice standards, or departmental policy to maintain compliance with accreditation entities.
- Maintains competence in at least two (2) specialized roles within the Pharmacy Department to support pharmacy operations and patient care activities. Competency areas may include: 1) Tech-Check-Tech, 2) Technician, Educator or Trainer, 3) USP 797 and/or USP 800 super-user, 4) Advanced pharmacy quality assurance monitoring, 5) Obtains patient medication histories, 6) chemotherapy/hazardous medication compounding certified, 7) decentralized pharmacy technician, 8) Pharmacy repackaging technician, 9) Assists with research or patient assistance program support, or 10) Advanced role in pharmacy inventory management. Each region's competency areas may vary based on size and scope. Discuss competency areas with area leader.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Registered Pharmacy Technician - Board of Pharmacy Upon Hire and
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Upon Hire
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Associate's
- 1-3 years pharmacy experience
