About the role

Role: Junior DevOps Engineer (AWS / CI/CD Focus)

Location: Baltimore, MD (Hybrid - 2 days onsite)

Remote: Considered for exceptional candidates

Employment Type: Full-Time (Immediate Hire)

Clearance: Public Trust Eligible (Due to federal contract requirements and Public Trust clearance eligibility, candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.)

Next Phase Solutions and Services is seeking a Junior DevOps Engineer to support a federal healthcare analytics program. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer with hands-on experience in AWS and CI/CD pipelines who is looking to grow in real-world DevOps and cloud environments.

This role is ideal for candidates who have moved beyond coursework and have practical experience (projects, internships, or early professional work) and can clearly explain how they have applied cloud and DevOps tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and monitor CI/CD pipelines, ensuring successful builds and deployments
  • Troubleshoot pipeline and deployment issues with guidance from senior engineers
  • Assist with provisioning and maintaining AWS cloud infrastructure (EC2, S3, IAM, etc.)
  • Work with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform or CloudFormation) to support environment setup
  • Support containerization applications using Docker and/or Kubernetes
  • Monitor system performance using tools such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, or Grafana
  • Collaborate with developers and the operations team during deployments and issue resolution

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, IAM, or similar) through:
    • internships
    • personal projects
    • or early professional experience
  • Basic understanding of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, etc.)
  • Experience working in a Linux or command-line environment
  • Exposure to Docker or containerization concepts
  • Ability to clearly explain your technical experience and problem-solving approach
  • Strong willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Terraform or Infrastructure as Code
  • Exposure to Kubernetes (EKS or similar)
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Scripting experience (Python, Bash)
  • AWS Certification (Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect Associate)

Experience:

  • 0 -2 years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or a related technical role, including hands-on experience with AWS and CI/CD pipelines through internships, structured training programs, or professional environments

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
