Job Description

This application is for a 12-week internship role from June - August 2023.

As an intern, you will partner and innovate to provide experimental support to exploratory portfolio work which targets human diseases with high unmet need. You will work closely at the bench with scientists in the Genetic and Neurodevelopmental Disorders Research Unit (GND RU) performing cell biology and biochemistry experiments. 

You will use laboratory techniques such as mammalian cell culture, qPCR, western blotting, and potentially immunohistochemistry and fluorescent in situ hybridization techniques using semi-automated platforms. 

Position Description 

Ongoing team interactions will help you grow both professionally and scientifically, while also exposing you to the dynamic nature of scientific research in the pharmaceutical industry. You will have opportunities to learn and perform several of the following based on interest: 

  • Wet-lab experiments, including techniques such as: 
  • Western blot (standard or capillary) 
  • Cell culture and molecular biology techniques (e.g., qPCR, transfection) 
  • Immunofluorescent tissue-based assays (protein, RNA) 
  • Rodent handling and/or sample collection 
  • Data analysis and visualization including GraphPad Prism 

You will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm for research by asking questions and critically evaluating hypotheses, performing experiments and generating/analyzing data while keeping a detailed and up-to-date lab notebook. Additional opportunities for growth include reading and discussing scientific literature and presenting research findings at group meetings. 

Qualifications

To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: 

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. 
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date 
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university 
  • Have a graduation date no earlier than September 2024

Education 

  • Currently pursuing an Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Biology, Chemistry, Neuroscience or a related field
