Responsible for the supervision of staff including appraisals, planning and directing work, approving leave, and having the authority for hiring and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions. Employee activity records (EARS), and travel vouchers. This position involves work directing, planning, monitoring, and evaluating a pharmacy program. This position is responsible for developing and coordinating the Pharmacy Services within the Department of Health in Duval County, including managing the department's budget. This position may also be responsible for direct patient care (administering medications or vaccinations).

  • Dispense prescriptions in accordance with various programs that the Health Department supports (ie: HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Epilepsy, Insulin, etc.). Duties include data entry of prescription information, dispensing medications, quality assurance, providing medication education and counseling to patients, and providing clinical assessment that is necessary to ensure patient safety and improve compliance.
  • Provides drug information to health care professionals and/or clients as well as patient consultation. Instruct patients (and/or parents) on medication administration techniques as applicable.
  • Maintains and monitors the records and medication profiles of patients enrolled in various programs. Prepares and coordinates the appropriate pay sources, program codes and forms for proper pharmacy billing.
  • Maintains a perpetual inventory control system for drugs and other items as appropriate. Orders drugs from wholesaler or supplier on a daily basis (or as required).
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities as defined by the Florida Board of Pharmacy.
  • Generates and/or reviews monthly reports of the different programs to monitor expenditures and ensure accuracy.
  • Reports any problems/deficiencies to the Medical Executive Director and helps to develop solutions.
  • Reads and evaluates pharmacy literature and medical journals to keep informed of new developments related to all pharmaceutical operation.
