ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Sr. Safety Basis Trainer to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is part-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico with hybrid flexibility. This role is anticipated to be temporary and will go until the project and associated tasks are completed.
Responsibilities
Leads and performs nuclear and non-nuclear risk and hazard analyses to ensure safe operation of nuclear and/or non-nuclear facilities.
Specific duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to:
hazard identification,
hazard analysis,
facility hazard categorization,
accident analysis,
selection of controls,
and development of associated safety basis documents including unreviewed safety question determinations,
documented safety analysis,
technical safety requirements,
safety assessment documents,
facility safety plans, and
facility safety analysis.
Build and develop a National Training Center’s (NTC)-type course to provide equivalent training to for the safety basis division and staff members.
Develop and present Documented Safety Analysis (DSAs) and Technical Safety Requirement (TSRs) writer training.
Assist in senior revisions to Safety Basis policy and implement documents.
Provide needed training support to qualify Safety Basis Analysis.
Work on a task-oriented assignment from building to qualifying to training.
Requirements
Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or science and 15+ years of relevant experience; additional, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance; "Q" Clearance is highly preferred.
Requires passing a review by the Safety Basis Division Qualification Review Board.
Must have expert-level knowledge to DOE SB orders and standards
Desired Skills
Previous or current qualification as National Training Center’s (NTC) Master Instructor level for Unreviewed Safety Question (USQs) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs) classes.

The NNSA's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is a design laboratory responsible for the safety and reliability of the nuclear explosives package in nuclear weapons. This lab possesses unique capabilities in neutron scattering, enhanced surveillance, radiography, and plutonium science and engineering (energy.gov).
