Assistant Director, Tumor Registry

Department Overview

The Assistant Director, Oncology Data Management & Accreditations, reports to the Director of Clinical Business Development & Planning. This position provides strategic and operational leadership for the OHSU Knight Cancer Registry, operations, and oncology accreditation programs across the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute and its partner sites. 

Function/Duties of Position

This role is accountable for ensuring Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Knight Cancer Institute and contracted facilities (Adventist Health Portland, Bay Area Hospital, and Columbia Memorial Hospital, Adventist Columbia Gorge, and Hillsboro Medical Center) maintain oncology accreditations. Primary Oversight includes, but is not limited to, the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS/CoC); ensures that OHSU maintains accreditation by the American College of Surgeons National Accreditation for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) and identifies and advances new accreditation opportunities aligned with organizational strategy and business need. 

 

In close partnership with faculty and Cancer Business Unit executive leadership, this role leverages cancer registry expertise and analysis to support strategic planning, operational decision making, research initiatives, and quality improvement. Responsibilities include guiding complex data requests, statistical analyses and performance reporting to inform program growth and excellence. This role actively participates in enterprise workgroups and committees, leads new accreditation efforts and serves as subject matter expert on oncology registry data and reporting.

 

The position has direct oversite of the Cancer Data Management Manager and the Cancer Data Analyst and is responsible for ensuring tumor registry operations meet or exceed all state, federal on Cancer Requirements.

 

 

Accreditation Oversight

 

Acts as a liaison to medical staff participating in the Cancer Program at OHSU, Adventist Hospital, Bay Area Hospital, Columbia Memorial Hospital, and Hillsboro Medical Center; provides direction and leadership to the organizations by coordinating activities to maintain Commission on Cancer (CoC) accreditation and National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) accreditation (for OHSU) and maintain compliance with their standards. Monitors on an ongoing basis, compliance level with standards, recommends and oversees implementation of activities and documentation to eliminate non-compliance.

 

Participates in the planning of cancer committee meetings for OHSU, Adventist Health Portland, Bay Areas Hospital, Columbia Memorial Hospital, and Hillsboro Medical Center. Attends and participates in cancer committees and prep meetings. Provides physicians, administrative and ancillary support with guidelines on complete and timely documentation and Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards and National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) compliance. Prepares or coordinates agenda and PowerPoint presentations for Cancer Committee quarterly meetings, attends as required member for the committee (CTR) and ensures minutes are documented.

 

• Helps to achieve patient outcomes standards by contributing to cancer program goals, patient care improvement measures, accountability measures, assessment of evaluation and treatment planning, studies of quality and quality improvements.
• Collaborate effectively across all Cancer Programs to develop and/or enhance programs and service delivery in a coordinated way to best serve patients and the community
• Commission on Cancer (CoC) Survey PRQ completion, point of contact for surveyor, prepare agenda for survey, take lead for chart reviews and attend CoC Survey. National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) Survey PRQ completion, point of contact surveyor, prepare agenda for survey, take lead for chart reviews and attends NAPRC Survey. 

 

Strategic Planning and Data Analytics

 

• Actively participates in strategic planning processes and strategic initiatives by collecting, analyzing, summarizing, producing and presenting data on OHSU and partner site tumor registry information (tumor information, locations) and Oregon State registry. 
• Assess market and determine areas of opportunity/threat within the program
• Using OHSU and partner site cancer tumor registry data against cancer incidence reporting, assesses referral patterns and types/locations of treatment, and provides recommendations on market share opportunities.

 

• Working with Cancer Collaborative partners (e.g. Legacy Health, Columbia Memorial Hospital, and Adventist Health Portland) on marrying cancer tumor registry data to analyze and put forward recommendations to address leakage opportunities.
