Job Description

This role is within the Chromalloy New York Engineering Organization. This role reports to the Director of Engineering.    

The Process Engineering Manager will be responsible for the administrative and technical supervision of a team of special process engineers. Special processes include but not limited to thermal spray coatings (APS, LPPS), overlay coatings (EBPVD), diffusion coatings (VPA, pack cementation), electroplating (precious metal plating), specialty welding, machining, laser processes, EDM, heat treatment, braze, chemical cleaning, acid stripping and automation. The Engineering Manager will ensure the timely completion as well as communicate regularly on project updates, lead or participate in technical meetings, communicate with various organizations including Chromalloy Center of Excellence, Repair Operations, Quality, Customer Support, in a matrix structure.

Must be willing to work onsite in Orangeburg, NY. No work from home option available.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties and responsibilities regularly performed in this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the process engineering team focused on development and improvement of special processes associated with the manufacturing and repairs of turbine blades, vanes, duct segments.
  • Special processes include but not limited to thermal spray coatings (APS, LPPS), overlay coatings (EBPVD), diffusion coatings (VPA, pack cementation), electroplating (precious metal plating), specialty welding, machining, laser processes, EDM, heat treatment, braze, chemical cleaning, acid stripping and automation.
  • Accountable for task execution by the team, adherence to schedule, team capacity assessment and planning, development and coaching of team members.
  • Drive rigor in execution of engineering programs, timely and accurate documentation of technical information such as technical reports, work instructions and similar documents by engineers assigned to projects.
  • Ensure and support appropriate execution of RCCAs on process related issues addressing manufacturing challenges.
  • Implement organizational strategy ensuring operational excellence, enabling project execution.
  • Oversee team progress on execution of NPI’s, technology roadmap programs, process yield improvement projects, scrap reduction/rework reduction initiatives in partnership with site operations and quality teams.
  • Engage with members of the greater Chromalloy Engineering, Operations, Quality organizations. Share and leverage best practices across the company.
  • Manage team resources. Periodically conduct gap analyses. Develop and implement mitigation strategies to close identified gaps.
  • Set priorities for the team in alignment with company goals. Ensure timely delivery on these set priorities.
  • Identify and implement individualized career development plans for all team members. Regularly check on progress against goals.
  • Provide annual performance ratings and reviews for direct reports.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training employees.
  • Foster an inclusive, innovative team culture.
  • Engage with and support companywide COP programs.
  • Strictly adhere to and lead by example on all EHS policies.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • PhD or master’s degree is preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in leading engineering teams is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in a cross-functional matrixed environment and demonstrated capability to drive results across an organization’s different functions
  • Experience in the aerospace industry is preferred.
  • Experience with high temperature material systems is preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of gas turbine manufacturing and repair processes
