Job Description
This Account Manager role will be accountable for the promotion, sales and support of automation equipment and works on a variety of automation projects, as a team member with our technical resources team. This position interacts with clients to understand automation requirements and transform them into effective solutions. Armed with superior product knowledge, strong negotiating skills, and the support services he or she needs, the Account Manager will work with the rest of the sales team to cultivate long-term relationships with new and established customers by promising and delivering exceptional customer service.
Role Summary
- Build relationships with customers, manufacturers, and automation integrators.
- Perform detailed product demonstrations so customer can clearly see value and features.
- Leverage key relationships as needed to identify emerging needs and solutions.
- Determine market segments, identify key target accounts, and execute a strategic sales plan for those accounts.
- Identify customer needs, propose solutions, and close orders.
- Promote Summit’s value added services in addition to products in competitive situations.
- Identify project sales opportunities.
- Transform product and service sales opportunities into system sales opportunities when appropriate (Motion Control, VFD’s, Engineered Services, and other automation products).
- Effective listening, communication, negotiation, and consensus-building skills.
Qualifications
- Technical background in the electrical industry. Degree in the technical field from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
- 3 years in the electrical industry with experience in sales.
- Significant sales and negotiating experience with and electrical supply distributor, manufacturer, or rep agency
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to identify and demonstrate technology solutions for customer applications.
- Familiar with process control hardware and software including PLCs, HMIs, Industrial Ethernet Networks, SCADA, and Historian.
- Presentation skills for both groups and individuals at all levels of customer organization.
- Experience managing complex technical sales process with long sales cycles.
- Strong drive for results and self-motivated.
- Strong customer service orientation
- Time management – ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to resolve complex business issues; ability to be forceful, but diplomatic and bring about win-win outcome
- Flexibility – ability to effectively adapt to change
Beneficial Skills
- Previous sales experience in an industrial environment with demonstrated ability to develop/drive new business.
- PLC programming experience.
- SCADA experience
- Telemetry experience.
- Variable Frequency Drive experience.
- Experience with ERP Systems, preferably SAP.
Physical Challenges:
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Consistent and regular use of phone, paper files, catalogs, and, computer software required.
- Regular, daily use of keyboard is necessary.
- Required travel to customer sites and other off-site locations to interact with customer.
- Must be able to perform the same physical tasks as that of a CSR, Counter, and Warehouse Associates.
- Must have ability to operate standard warehouse equipment. Must have ability to drive a Summit vehicle or provide own, reliable means of transportation.
- Ability to climb stairs.
- Majority of job is located in “the field” working with Customer accounts. Some portion of time is spent in store/office area, however, must be willing to work majority of time on customer work sites.
