About the role

Trilateral Research have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Data Scientist to join our Sociotech for Good Team working on our CESIUM portfolio of work. In this role you will lead the delivery of data science efforts at an operational level and begin to demonstrate skills and aptitude to leadership by contributing to strategy as it relates to data science at the wider business level. You will also line manage junior members of staff and contribute to team development efforts through coaching and training, and demonstrate expertise through publication where appropriate.

What are your responsibilities?

  • Lead and supervise data science tasks for a product/project – ensuring timely and quality-assured development in line with strategic objectives
  • Actively lead data science support to product implementation and ongoing support meeting customer requirements for pilots and/or production systems
  • Design, plan and implement technical tasks and documentation in-line with product objectives
  • Support peer-code review process to a high standard
  • Begin to demonstrate abilities leadership skills by contributing to data science strategy at the wider company level.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary sociotech manner, ensuring an understanding and engagement with data ethics, data privacy, data security and algorithmic transparency considerations.
  • Support identification and translation of customer problems and user requirements into feasible data science outputs
  • Provide data science expertise and recommendations within business development/sales efforts
  • Write high quality, maintainable code.
  • Provide clear and useful technical documentation, with details around risks and potential mitigation actions.
  • Work with a team on cutting-edge research and development projects
  • Identify areas for further innovation
  • Where agreed, provide line management to staff including active management of the full employee life cycle & performance management in line with company values
  • Support internal training and development of data science expertise, standards and procedures across the team via participation in the data science tribe.
  • Demonstrate expertise through collaborative peer-reviewed, publication and/or conference papers and wider marketing collateral (e.g., blogs, webinars, podcasts) – working across the team as required.

Please note that this role requires vetting to Non-Police Personnel Level 3, meaning only candidates with a minimum of three years residency in the UK will be eligible.

What skills and experience you will bring to the role:


General Knowledge and Technical Skills

  • Demonstrable experience of completing data science projects.
  • Ability to set priorities and focus and to take ownership and drive a task to conclusion without supervision.
  • Demonstrable experience in working on collaborative software projects and knowledge of clean software architecture principles
  • Good understanding of statistics - hypothesis testing, p-values, confidence intervals, regression, classification, and optimization.
  • Good understanding of machine learning evaluation methodologies for iid and non-iid data
  • Good background knowledge of, and experience with, a variety of machine learning approaches, such as linear/logistic regression, SVM, random forests, and deep learning (ANN, RNN, CNN, LSTM, etc.)
  • Good experience manipulating large data set
