About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Equipment Repair Supervisor in our Communications Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:

• Supervising assigned staff by establishing priorities, evaluating performance, assessing developmental needs, and correcting substandard performance and discipline issues as they occur.
• Monitoring daily activities of work team by working directly with team members, checking assignments and assisting with technical issues.
• Installing, removing, and repairing police, communications and other electronic equipment in VSP vehicles.
• Servicing and repairing motor vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge:

• Of automotive systems.
• Of communications, police, and electronic systems and equipment installation.
• Of safety principles related to shop operations.

Skill:

• In the diagnostic, repair, and service of motor vehicles.
• In the use of personal computers, Microsoft applications, and other applicable software programs to create documents and basic reports.

Ability:

• To read and comprehend manuals and other written documents.
• To apply automotive repair techniques.
• To evaluate, train, and supervise the work of others.
• To prioritize workload.
• To maintain a variety of records.
• To safely use shop, woodworking, and mechanics hand tools.
• To communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.
• To effectively train employees on vehicle lighting and radio equipment installation and electrical theory.
• To lead process improvement and refinement procedures.
• To implement and oversee quality control procedures within work production, processes, and operations.
• Considerable experience in automotive, mechanical, and/or electronic equipment systems and repair is required.
• Virginia Operator's License required.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Additional Considerations

• Experience in automotive, mechanical, and/or electronic equipment system repair in law enforcement preferred.
• Emergency vehicle technician (EVT) certification preferred.
