SUMMARY:
MCAD is seeking a Lead Mental Health Counselor. This position will work with a diverse undergraduate and graduate student population providing counseling services, including individual counseling, in-group counseling, and psycho-educational sessions. The Lead Mental Health Counselor must be sensitive to the overall college needs, employee and student goodwill, and overall brand equity of MCAD as an employer and educational institution.
DETAILS: This is a full time, exempt position expected to work 35 hours a week. This position reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs and is paid $65,000-$70,000 annually.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Counseling Direct Services
- Provide intake assessments, individual counseling, crisis intervention, and psychoeducation for students experiencing developmental and adjustment difficulties, mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms, personal/relational issues, and academic challenges.
- Develop and provide counseling groups and skills-based groups/ workshops.
- Develop appropriate counseling strategies based on presenting concerns of the student/client.
- Facilitate mental health, medical, and community referrals as needed. Provide direction to students regarding using health insurance for off-campus services.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality, is timely with documentation and record keeping..
- Participate in weekly clinical consultation staff meetings.
- Administrative
- Assist with scheduling and responding to student requests for services.
- Assist with campus outreach for the Student Counseling and Wellness Services.
- Assist team with planning and providing new student orientation, and intraining of student leaders (Resident Assistants and Peer Mentors).
- Maintain, update, and monitor EHR (Electronic Health Records), in consultation with the Director.
- Assist in providing clinical supervision for a mental health graduate student who is working with the MCAD Counseling Office for completion of their practicum or internship..
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Represent MCAD’s vision, purpose, and values in day to day work and interactions with MCAD students, staff, faculty, and campus guests, as well as the greater community.
Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- MA, MS, MSW, or Ph.D., Psy.D., E.D. in counseling psychology, clinical social work, professional counseling, marriage and family therapy, or a closely related field, required.
- Must be fully licensed in the State of Minnesota.
- Minimum of 3-5 or more years of post licensure clinical counseling experience required.
- Proven experience providing short term individual and group counseling, assessment, diagnosis, and crisis intervention.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population of college students/young adults, faculty, and staff.
- Interest in the art/design field is preferred.
- Previous experience in a college counseling setting is highly valued.
ENVIRONMENT: This position operates in a professional office environment. This position requires the ability and willingness to closely partner with team members and colleagues in other departments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
