Job Summary 
The Senior Developer Packaging and Label takes the lead to execute on company strategy and development of packaging and labeling; and to ensure that the brand, quality, and compliance standards at Carhartt are maintained. The role includes strong knowledge of P&L material substrates, standards and requirements, and existing and emerging global regulatory requirements. Strong collaborations with supply chain partners and cross functional teams (Brand Marketing, Merchandising, Design, Product Compliance, and Legal) are required to ensure seasonal execution is accurate, compliant, and on-time.

Representative Responsibilities 

  • Takes lead on P&L department’s seasonal developments (hangtags, header boards, stickers, sewn-in labels, heat transfer labels, and care/content labels) from concept through production approval with nominated suppliers. 
  • Supports company initiatives through exploration and implementation into digital technology (RFID, QR codes, digital passport, etc.). 
  • Implements standards and testing requirements for all new substrates and developments; audits and updates seasonal P&L Guidelines and Manuals; maintains approved templates and artwork in department database. 
  • Oversee seasonal Packaging Routing Form process with all cross functional teams for accurate development, artwork proofing, and elevates issues such as print limitations, MOQ, and costing for decision making and approval.  
  • Proof and approval of all artwork and care label content for accuracy. Includes tracking through data entry for development status, communication to vendors, and handoff of adopted P&L (standard, spec, testing) to Quality Assurance for bulk production
  • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure all new packaging is developed per brand marketing direction (paper quality, artwork and color); tested to meet material specification requirements; and tracked to meet seasonal development timeline.
  • Analyze and solve problems in a timely manner by working directly with suppliers to expedite artwork resubmits and provide technical assistance to supplier to achieve package and label approval. 
  • Kick-off seasonal care label information through partnership with Product Development team. Ensure accurate care instructions are identified for all new product and BOMs are updated accordingly. 
  • Lead the weekly Brand ID development meetings; manages timelines; outlines action and follow-up steps for cross functional participants; and provides updates & follow ups to Packaging and Labeling Manager. Participate in bi-weekly Product Development meetings and bring updates and red flags along with solutions to the cross-functional teams’ attention.   
  • Supports Manager to build and executes department’s seasonal production timelines for packaging.  Communicates out deadlines to adhere to the garment production timeline.
  • Stay current on industry trends for packaging. Attends trade shows as relevant and necessary. Reviews existing vendor base and introduces new suppliers, as needed.
  • Mentor the day-to-day tasks of packaging and labeling team members based on business needs.


Required Education 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Package & Label Development, Textiles, Apparel, or related field; or equivalent years of related experience in lieu of a degree  


Required Skills & Experience 

  • Minimum six years of experience in Packaging and Labeling. 
  • Proficient in global standards and regulations as related to apparel packaging, labeling, and care labeling. Follows and understands FTC Rules and AAFA guidelines on labeling.
  • Strong technical, strategic, and analytical skills and aptitude.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to be flexible, solution oriented and adaptive to changing priorities, as well as effectively manage and resolve conflict.
