Department Summary

The Recreational Sports Department at UNT strives to provide the kind of recreational experiences that not only support the wellness of the UNT community but inspire it. The activities are provided through intramural sports, informal recreation, group exercise, sport clubs, esports, fitness, faculty/staff fitness, special events, outdoor pursuits and aquatics.

Position Overview

We are looking for persons with the availability to work part or all of the 2024 summer with weekend availability including early mornings and late evenings. Applicants must be able to work a few days during the week must be comfortable around pools. Applicants must be proficient in swimming and will be required to swim 300 yards weekly. Since we work in a service-oriented environment, our number one goal is to uphold customer service standards while maintaining a safe aquatic facility. Lifeguards should enforce and abide by all facility rules, regulations, and policies.

Minimum Qualifications

- Excellent oral communication
- Ability to swim and tread water competently (demonstrated at skill screening)
- Ability to perform physical portions of job (lifting, stooping, kneeling, swimming, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Preferred Qualifications

- American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid
- American Red Cross Administering Emergency Oxygen

Required License/Registration/Certifications

- American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid

Job Duties:

  • Respond to emergency situations by preventing and minimizing hazards while enforcing all pool rules - (Essential)
  • Manage the aquatic facilities' general care and maintenance of pools; Enforcing water safety and actively scanning; Opening and closing duties; Cleaning duties, including chemical handling. - (Essential)
  • Strong communication and organizational skills - (Essential)
  • Exemplify customer service by controling misconduct or managing conflict situations - (Essential)
  • Promote a positive work environment: - (Essential)
  • Attending all in-services, staff meetings, and orientations - (Essential)
