Job Description
This is an advanced level and/or lead position in which work assignments require the regular application of generally acknowledged expertise in the radio frequency (RF) electrical engineering field and the use of considerable initiative and creativity. The incumbent provides technical leadership in significant design, development and research projects, and in the preparation of technical proposals in the field of RF design. Project management assignments for large technical proposals and R & D programs require substantial coordination with internal sources of information, oversight of the work of other engineers and may involve representing the company where technical credibility is required. Provides expert explanations, techniques or approaches to colleagues, management and customers.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide technical leadership and execution over complex, major design, development and research projects. Assumes responsibility for successful completion (Schedule, Performance, Cost) of sub-systems.
2. Responsible for carrying out specific project responsibilities as part of larger program objectives involved in the design and development of products, equipment, or processes. May design, lay out complex items. Develop specifications, schematics, assembly drawings, bill of materials, against which designs can be produced. Prepares product and sub-system performance specifications. Conduct RF computer simulation to analyze, test or design power amplifiers operating in VHF, UHF, L, S and C bands. Review and implement design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for test (DFT) objectives
3. Prepare project requests detailing proposed engineering work costs and product timetable.
4. Provide technical presentation support and consultation to proposal team.
5. Represent company unit in customer or field force contacts.
6. Recommend the addition, expansion or termination of research projects and assure the technical soundness of engineering programs.
7. Verify designs in the lab environment working with RF equipment including but not limited to spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, RF signal generators and advanced oscilloscopes.
8. Prepare cost estimates on proposed major RF design products.
9. Plan and lead experiments to evaluate operating characteristics of products or processes.
10. Produce innovative technical solutions to customers problems.
11. Prepare technical proposals for competitive bids.
12. Research information on equipment and cost for project proposals.
13. Perform preliminary engineering necessary to confirm plans and programs.
14. Provide technical support to program management, quality, and procurement. Perform typical RF design engineering functions, including schematic design and capture, design review, supervision and review of PCB design and layout. Select and evaluate components and purchased subassemblies to ensure program requirements are met. Provide production and obsolescence support as required. Be able to conduct analysis to determine form, fit and functional alternates for obsolete parts or for those nearing obsolescence.
15. Collect and analyze information on competitor product performance.
16. Initiate and conduct field testing and research work for new RF applications.
17. Translate experimental results into design criteria.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent scientific discipline and at least 12 years of experience or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 14 years of experience to be proficient in the above areas or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
