Summary of the Role: A LBNF/DUNE Far Site Logistics Manager is sought to join Fermilab’s Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) and Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) project in Lead, South Dakota as part of the Far Detector & Cryogenics team. The LBNF/DUNE Project is hosted by Fermilab in Batavia, IL, but includes participation from universities and laboratories from around the world. The overall project includes construction of a beamline and near detector at Fermilab and a large underground detector at the Sanford Laboratory in Lead, South Dakota.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Under limited direction and having substantial latitude to make decisions and act, the Far Site Logistics Manager is responsible to lead the coordination of logistics, material movement, transportation, and related activities while interfacing with existing Sanford Lab operations, as well as with simultaneous construction and installation of Conventional Facilities (CF), cryogenics, and the DUNE detectors at the Sanford Lab. The role provides logistic management oversight for all materials and equipment from origin to the Sanford Lab site except for the conventional facilities construction equipment and materials. Delivery to the underground site requires close communication and coordination with project partners due to limited available storage space at the Sanford Lab. This role will include planning and schedule integration as well as high levels of communication with multiple stakeholders.

The Far Site Logistics Manager reports to the Far Detectors & Cryogenics Integration and Installation Services Manager and is expected to reside in South Dakota but also spend up to 10% of his/her time traveling domestically and internationally to other locations as necessary to support LBNF/DUNE and coordinate with project partners.

YOU WILL:

  • Oversee planning, schedule integration, and execution of logistics and transportation in cooperation with FSCF/BSI and FDC subprojects, and coordinates with all other LBNF/DUNE project partners logistics management at the Sanford Laboratory, in the Ross Shaft, and to the caverns underground.\
  • Provide input to the Integration & Installation team to support internal planning and logistics management
  • Act as the LBNF/DUNE FDC point of contact for logistics and ensure close coordination with Sanford Lab operations as necessary for LBNF/DUNE FDC logistics and transportation planning and execution.
  • Research and arrange requests for innovative and unique transportation projects as assigned.
  • Manage contractors and employees in the execution of warehousing and domestic transportation operations including but not limited to Warehouse, Trucking, Logistics operations and transportation staff.
  • Oversee all import/export shipments for LBNF/DUNE and interacts with U.S. Customs officials, Fermilab’s Custom’s Brokers, related transportation bureaus and government agencies representatives.
  • Expedite and trace shipments of materials for the LBNF/DUNE Far Detectors and Cryogenics project.
  • Identify and resolve problems associated with freight and packages, including on-site and off-site transportation of LBNF/DUNE equipment and materials.
