JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant will provide clinical support, assist with administrative tasks, and provide general support under direct supervision of a licensed practitioner or designee in accordance with UVA Health policies and procedures and competency to promote patient health and wellness.
This position requires providing service to all age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.
Patient Care: Responsible for practicing safely within the defined standards of practice.
- Records and relays patient information, symptoms, and concerns to the patient’s medical provider or registered nurse for further triage assessment and to determine a plan of care
- Completes standardized rooming and performs clinical intake, health data collection, and documentation.
- Performs tasks according to scope of practice, documented competencies, and as directed by a licensed practitioner or nurse.
- Implements age-appropriate interventions based on individual patient needs as directed by the patient’s medical provider.
- Reinforces patient/family teaching plan based on identified health education needs and the condition and age of the patient through approved educational materials or written instructions
Communication: Communicates effectively and professionally with all members of the interdisciplinary team, patients, medical providers and all levels of healthcare.
- Conveys information to physicians, nurses, and other team members, as well as listen and respond to the needs and concerns of patients and colleagues
- Utilizes appropriate communication tools.
- Documents patient information in EHR.
Teamwork: Willing to share responsibilities, support their teammates, and work together to achieve common goals.
- Organizes and prioritizes daily work assignments to support patient needs, the interdisciplinary team, and operational efficiency.
- Demonstrates teamwork in the delivery of patient care. Recognizes the importance of time sensitive issues.
Technical Competence: Uses knowledge and skills acquired through training and validation through competency testing.
- Provides clinical support under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.
- Documents and capture charges for clinical support services rendered within the patient visit.
- Performs administrative support responsibilities as directed by a Clinic Leader.
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
