About the role

The Financial Authorization Associate I verifies or obtains insurance benefits for patients, determines patient liability and coordinates payment of uncovered medical expenses. Assists patients with insurance and payment issues, and completion of required forms, and resolves problems as necessary.

1.Obtains and verifies patients insurance benefit information from insurance companies or private payers regarding coverage for services.

2.Obtains all necessary payer authorizations and acquires all required referrals for services to be provided.

3.Negotiates modifies rates with carriers.

4.Communicates and inform patients of any potential patient out-of-pocket liability, and works out payment plans as necessary. May provides resources to bridge the gap between insurance coverage and patients liability if necessary.

5.Assists patients with questions or problems regarding insurance coverage and other financial matters.

6.Assists in the resolution of any patient billing issues.

7.Maintains and completes all insurance assessment forms and agreements and ensures they are accurate for claims processing.

8.Performs other related duties.

Associates degree in related field; Bachelors preferred, or combination of relevant experience and education

Entry experience; 1+ year medical insurance experience is preferred, including medical office administration or benefit verification

Compensation Statement

 

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $25.76 - $28.27 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
