Overview
Plans, organizes and directs HIM operations in accordance with established policies of the department, hospital, JCAHO, CMS and other regulatory agencies. Develops new and/or streamlines processes for delivery of health information services throughout the organization. Oversees fiscal accountability, quality, productivity, hiring, evaluation and supervision of staff. Serves as a consultant to other departments on HIM-related issues. Serves as Supervisor On Call for nights, weekends and/or holidays in rotation with other supervisory staff.
Responsibilities

Interviews, selects, hires, and retains employees.
Ensures orientation and training for employees.
Manages employee productivity and performance.
Executes progressive discipline up to and including termination
Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
Manages front line operations of area of accountability related to meeting/exceeding departmental goals, 5 keys of excellence, DCH Mission and Vision. Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
Maintains a thorough working knowledge of electronic medical record systems, paper records filing and retention.
Knowledge of JCAHO and CMS standards and how they apply to HIM.
Assures inter-organization departments are consistent in policies and processes with hospital HIM.
Participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures and monitors compliance.
Resolves problems that arise with releases of confidential medical information, misplaced medical records, physician issues or workflow issues.
Responds to all quality issues and customer requests. Maintains high customer satisfaction level.
Prepares in-service and similar programs as needed to assure staff is knowledgeable of current policies and processes.
Prepares work schedules and approves CTO for staff.
Prepare reports on current situation of the department's progress and current situation.

HIM Supervisor –Deficiency Analysis/ Documentation Monitoring (Reports to Manager, HIM Operations)
Manages front line operations of discharge analysis for the DCH system.
Direct reports include the Chart Completion Analysis team and the Data Integrity Specialist.
Manages the delinquent record/suspension process.
Conducts random reviews of medical and surgical records to ensure compliance with JCAHO, CMS and DCH Medical Staff Rules and Regulations pertaining to provider documentation.
Maintains documentation review spreadsheets and/or Midas databases for documentation improvement and Identifies patterns of noncompliance and conducts focused reviews as needed.
Generates reports and communicates results and activities to administration, medical staff and other internal and external parties to support organizational improvement initiatives.
Serves as a resource on documentation requirements for all providers, provides follow up communications and education on their individual compliance results, and creates educational material as needed.
Assist with the coordination of all related Medical Audit Committee processes including scheduling, record reviews, reporting, communication, presentations, forms approval, agendas, minutes, etc.

Qualifications
Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English. RHIA or RHIT certification required OR 3 – 5 years of experience in hospital-based health information management.
Must be familiar with a variety of HIM concepts, practices and procedures.
