About the role

Description

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy (SEMTE) seek applicants for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position  in the area of  Semiconductors and Microelectronics Materials and Devices. The School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy (https://semte.engineering.asu.edu/), one of the eight Fulton Schools, houses a vibrant and dynamic  research community in materials science and  engineering (learn more at https://semte.engineering.asu.edu/research/materials-science-and-engineering).

We seek a visionary scholar to advance research in emerging semiconductor materials, with a focus on their integration into next-generation devices and packaging for transformative microelectronics applications. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vibrant, externally funded research program that advances the frontiers of semiconductors and microelectronics materials. Special emphasis will be placed on the integration of emerging semiconductor materials into advanced devices and on facilitating their packaging for reliable system-level applications. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work bridges materials science and mechanical engineering to address challenges in microelectronics materials, such as reliability, thermal management, mechanical integrity, and scalable manufacturing. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, wide bandgap and two-dimensional semiconductors, advanced thin film growth and heterostructures, nanoscale fabrication, and materials solutions for next-generation electronic and photonic devices. The appointee will be encouraged to pursue interdisciplinary collaborations between the Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering programs and across campus, contribute to national and international research initiatives, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in cutting-edge research.

We search for applicants who will contribute to our academic programs, promote transdisciplinary teaching, and research, and help the university to achieve its aspirations, including enabling student success, transforming society, valuing entrepreneurship, and conducting use-inspired research. Faculty members in the Fulton Schools are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, adopt effective pedagogical practices in the development and delivery of graduate and undergraduate courses, advise both undergraduate and graduate student research and projects, and undertake service activities. This is an exciting time to join SEMTE and Fulton Schools of Engineering that are experiencing a surge in the growth of their semiconductor and microelectronics research https://microelectronics.asu.edu/southwest-advanced-prototyping-hub/ and furthering collaborations with  industries   https://engineering.asu.edu/industry-engagement-catalyst/. Appointment will be at assistant, associate, or full professor rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2026.
