About the role

Description

The successful candidate will assist the head coach in the organization and management of a competitive NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse program in the Atlantic-10 conference, including serving as the recruiting coordinator. This position may coordinate the offense or defense, as well as other position groups, depending on skillset and experience.

The position responsibilities will include teaching and coaching student-athletes for successful competition; supporting student-athletes’ academic success; recruiting prospective students; scouting opponents; fundraising; cultivating alumni and parent relations; administrative tasks; and other duties as assigned.  The associate head coach will conduct all activities within NCAA, A10 and HWS regulations and guidelines.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

 

·        Teaching and Coaching: 

o   teach student-athletes all related principles and rules of the sport

o   be prepared to lead team in the absence of the head coach

o   assist in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of practice and game plans

o   operate digital platforms to develop training, practice and game plans

o   maintain an exemplary standard of conduct, which reflects the highest level of professionalism and good judgment

o   be knowledgeable of and compliant with all institutional, department, NCAA and A-10 conference policies, rules and regulations

 

·        Counseling and Advisement of Student-Athletes:

o   develop and maintain effective communication with student-athletes

o   reinforce academic success as a priority

o   encourage student-athletes to foster a positive relationship with faculty, deans and staff

 

·        Recruiting:

o   Serve as the recruiting coordinator

o   effectively recruit prospective student-athletes under the direction of the head coach and consistent with the Colleges’ mission

o   maintain the sport-specific recruiting electronic database

o   recruit student-athletes who coincide with the academic profile of HWS students

 

·        Professional Development:

o   maintain active membership in professional sport organizations

o   pursue formal and informal educational opportunities

o   participate in Hobart Napier Seminars and other educational seminars/trainings

 

·        Community Engagement/Fundraising

o   promote the sport and Hobart and William Smith Athletics in area communities; lead community service initiatives

o   maintain a positive relationship with interested constituents (e.g. youth groups, civic organizations, media)

o   assist in the planning and management of fundraising activities

o   develop a positive relationship with Hobart Lacrosse alumni and parents

 

·        Other duties as assigned, including department-wide tasks and responsibilities.

Other Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the academic year, with a possible shortened workweek during the scheduled summer hours’ time period.  Evening and weekend work are
